The Sum of Good Things - action from 2009
This morning I was delighted to see a friend come back... a friend whom I thought was lost forever...
jiro
One day, he told me of a dream he had, and I wrote a story about it. It has always been one of my favorite stories.
Then... looking for it in my galley, I couldn't find it. I have no idea why I took it down, or even 'if' I took it down.
Going back to my files, I found it, and was amazed I'd written it some twelve years ago.
It is a bittersweet story full of action and possibilities...
Thank you Jiro...

I had read this one awhile back when it was included in one of your collections (the same one which also had 'Blind Music', 'Clay Fox' and 'Wharton (In The Farm By the Weir.') It was a serious highlight in an anthology full of them, and its driving and ultimately heartwarming read today.
Your Sci-Fi pieces never cease to impress, your sense of humour is mixed seamlessly here, there's a good sense of genuine tension and urgency; and although short it carried the impression that something much bigger was going on. It just helps that Sum and Corky make a great couple too, they have the chemistry for it.

If I ever came across this before, I don't remember it. I'm having to learn to live with that more and more often, but that's off topic.
On topic, this was really good. I don't think I've ever seen you use a structured anti-anthropomorphic group as a antagonist before. It feels way too real for this day and age, but that gives it extra punch.
