He was always barefoot when I first designed him, so I kept him like that for the comic. I actually make it an issue in chapter 2.

Most cartoon animal characters are barefoot, so that's how I drew him when I first designed him. But when I started drawing the comic, I imagined a world where some cultures go barefoot, and others wear shoes. Chucky comes from a fairly rural and earthy upbringing where shoes are considered accessories for special occasions or utility purpose. New England, where he's going to school, has a mostly cold climate and a generally more formal culture with dress. Read on, his roommate asks him.
