Kero_Tzuki_In Everton, in the College of Magic, there is quite the peculiar professor. A young fox, with fur that mimics the stars, Celestine Stargazer.
La Malva Setting
Astrological magic is thought to be one of the oldest practiced forms of magic in all of La Malva, sentient species using it to read the stars above for answers since their very inception. However, while this form of magic has always been practiced, in recent times it has become one of the highest in demand forms of magic, causing it to have a large influx of students in the last century. There are many people who wish to employ the use of astrological mages: navigators, clock makers, map makers, and even farmers often rely on these practitioners for a variety of different reasons. With Everton's high amount of merchant ships, it was inevitable that the College of Magic would expand the availability of astrological classes. This increase in student recruitment, would lead people from all parts of Le Malva to make trips to Everton to attend these illustrious classes. Many of these new students were from the deserts of Leffar, and especially from the port city of Essana.
Leffar has been native to desert dwelling Feralfolk far longer than humans, and are far more spread out through the vast desert continent. While many cities exist, both in traditional Leffar styles and in the new style that has become standard since the shift in culture after the 'six shooters' were first created. Essana is a city that has stayed in this traditional style, using its more 'elegant' design in order to draw in merchant ships to compete with Serpent Town. This port city is still very much inhabited by Feralfolk, who have thrived with their close proximity to Everton. But many of Essana's citizens wish for more than to live in the harsh desert, and many of them choose to make the risky journey to Everton for a multitude of reasons. One of these hopeful Feralfolk was a fox, by the name of Celestine Stargazer.
Celestine was born into a long family of astrological mages who called Essana home, using their abilities to chart new courses for ships around the coasts of Leffar. Celestine was no different, her early life consisting of constant home schooling on the skills she'd need to become an astrological mage, along with her siblings. Though, unlike her family, Celestine always aspired to make a name for herself that would make her known far beyond the desert city that is her family home. Once she reached maturity she would take all her coin, books, and the clothes on her back to risk it all and attend the College of Magic in Everton. As is the story of many who aspire for greater things in Everton, it wasn't as easy as she may have expected, and the first few months were difficult as she ran her pockets thin just to eat and stay in one of the lower end inns. Though she was far better off than most, as her skills as an astrological mage would gain her coin from many Everton citizens who couldn't afford higher end mages. Though her activities didn't go unnoticed by the college, and specifically interested the professor of astrological magic, Taog MacGhille.
Professor Taog was one of the most successful astrological professors in the history of the college, due to the use of a secret enchantment that allowed him to change his skin to display the heavens which allowed him to consult the stars at any time of the day. Taog took an interest in Celestine after hearing mentions of her among Everton farmers, with her surprising amount of accuracy for someone so young and running for cheap rates. The accuracy was of particular interest to the professor, who decided to bring her into his class on his own funds, a common practice for professors who find promising students. Celestine would form a bond with Taog over the years, looking up to him as a father figure now that she was so far from her family, learning to hone her magic even further and being able to almost perfectly predict astrological events months in advance.
While she was a star pupil she was still mostly unknown to many of Everton, until she was able to predict the return of the 'Magus Comet'. The comet was something that hadn't happened for several centuries up to that point, which allows several days of magic use without the risk of causing void rifts. Many were skeptical of the Celestine's prediction, but Taog was able to convince the college to prepare a large scale of event to further research with the unrestricted use of magic. Celestin's prediction was proven to be true, and she was praised for it, as it allowed research in several fields of magic to jump forward by several decades. She finally reached a level of notoriety she had been wishing for most of her life, and finally proved to Taog that she could be a worthy successor.
Taog would teach her the secrets of his enchantment, allowing her to turn portions of her fur into reflections of the heavens, making her predictions far more frequent without the restrictions to night. She was still far younger than many of the other professors in the college, and so when the passing of Taog eventually came, she took his place as professor of astrological magic. Unlike her mentor, Celestine's fur patterns allowed her to change enchant specific parts of her body where Taog had to turn all of his skin. With this unique advantage, she adopted it as a permanent part of her fur, giving her a striking appearance and spreading her notoriety even more throughout Everton.
Now teaching regularly at the College of Magic, she has brought forward many more astrological mages, teaching them the secrets of reading the heavens. Many insist she releases the secrets of the enchantment she uses to change her fur, claiming it could benefit the magic community overall. While they may be correct, she honors her late mentor, keeping the secret of his discovery until she may find someone worthy of being her successor.
