The Awakening has left the once great continent of Calrinor shattered and broken. When the primordials awoke no one was ready for the genocide they would instigate. Many tried to fight off these colossal creatures and all failed. The mages of the floating city of Taldior managed to devise a spell that would bring the primordials back into a slumber yet the spell was so powerful it backfired and broke the Stream the source for all arcane magic. In the many years since then, many nations have arisen and rebuilt themselves.
