Vurga doesn't eat people to be mean (usually). It's a possessive thing. He likes someone, so he wants them forever. That cute fellow? Vurga wants to be able to pat and rub them forever, knowing they made him even cuter. Sure being Vurga fat forever's kind of a big life change, but he'll help them get used to it.

This poor fellow was wandering around looking FANCY. A slick white suit, nice shoes...Vurga was jealous! He wants to be fancy! So logically, if he eats this guy, that'll up the fancy levels in his body, right?
