Kataka is the oldest child of Azee and Acha, a pair of dominant meerkats who made their home near a desert oasis. She is a very valued member of her mob, being an experienced babysitter and sentry, but one fault of hers is that she is prone to getting attacked by predators.
Kataka wanders too far from her mob while foraging one day and almost gets snatched by an eagle, but is saved thanks to the timely intervention of a meerkat named Timon. After he points her in the right direction to get back to her mob, Kataka forgets about him until she happens to run into him again. Timon says that he has fallen in love with her, but she protests that she hardly knows him. Timon resolves to fix that and asks to stay with her mob for a while. Kataka is unsure about this, but her parents are willing to give him a chance and let him stay for the time being. The two meerkats spend time together and Kataka slowly warms up to Timon, but Timon feels out of his element and begins to miss his friends: a lion and a warthog. Though he tries to persuade her to leave her colony with him, Kataka refuses, wanting to stay with her mob.
Timon eventually leaves, choosing his two best friends over a life spent with Kataka and her mob. Kataka never sees him again, but Timon does leave her with two gifts: a heart-shaped stone and, as she later finds out, a litter of pups.
Kataka is a female meerkat who appeared in the TLK magazine story "Falling In Love". She's a love interest of Timon's, or rather one of several love interests. I think there's been about SIX different different meerkats he's been interested in (or seven if you count that time he fell in love with himself), but this is the one that he becomes semi-mates with in my TLK universe.
