Part 3
Nesu stared at the floor as she felt another wave of greasy feed flow down into her gut. The last month had been relentless. What was supposed to be a simple mission, retrieving the nav data from the human ship, had ended in perhaps the worst way possible.
An honorable death had been denied her, and now for the last, by her own count, thirty cycles, she had seen nothing but the same empty room, the tube that ran across the floor, and those two, scampering little birds. This ship had to have a full crew, a mercenary vessel from the looks of it, yet no one but them had entered. The captain and his friend, she had gleaned from their conversations.
Other than what she managed to hear from their visits, she had little idea of where in the galaxy she was, or the state of the war. Worse still, her chances of escape worsened by the day. Moving her head was tough on account of the tube, and yet even without looking she could feel her muscles growing weaker, her middle soft and strange. Her stomach bulged and hung out against her legs, her rump swelling and her arms weakening.
Still, she would wait, she would find a way out, so she told herself. Yet inside, the doubts that she would ever escape only mounted beneath the surface.
