For the first time I realize that eating gemstones would be kinda bad in a way just because they are a truly nonrenewable resource. Plants and animals are renewable, gems can take ages for nature to make. Sure we can make modern day artificial versions in labs, ah now that would be very amusing to see some sort of 'gem-lite' or 'I can't believe it's not gems'.

Sure, magic and all that entails would probably smooth that issue right over. And they can eat loads of other things but just really really like to eat gems so it isn't the only thing dragons eat in Equestria.

And it would seem Musgravite is currently the rarest real life gemstone. That would be super funny to see a dragon going nuts over them like Dr. Zoidberg on anchovies.
