Having a meltdown in the middle of the wilderness could attract dangerous creatures, after all.
A little surprised Oli doesn't complain about the view, but perhaps it's not worth complaining about since there's nearly nothing visible. I almost think being a female drek is in some (physical?) ways an easier thing to adapt to than if Oli had been a male one, while clearly being very difficult to accept in other (mental/emotional) ways.
