A beautiful specimen of a Jaguar Mark 2, spotted parked at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Clearly, someone wanted to bring a bit of heritage with them to a heritage railway. ^__^
Built from 1959 to 1967 in Coventry, England, the Jaguar Mark 2 was a sports saloon intended as an upgrade to the Mark 1 Jaguar, available both with the previous 2.4l and 3.4l straight-six cylinder engines, and a more powerful 3.8l engine. Over 90,000 of the model were built, with the lion's (or jaguar's) share of that being the original Mark 2 and a few thousand 240s and 340s being built between 1967 and 1969. The car was popular among the criminal classes who could afford it as a getaway vehicle, particularly the 3.8l version which ensured an acceleration of 0-60 in 8.5 seconds. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this also made it popular as a police car on Britain's motorways throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
Hope you enjoy!

There is not the slightest detail on this car that I would change...it's sheer aesthetic perfection. Sir William Lyons, who founded Jaguar and designed their cars up to the XJ saloons, was one of the finest automotive stylists of all time.
This car has the character and presence of a handsome, proud Englishwoman. The modern cars parked nearby look dour and insignificant by comparison.

I don't usually double-post on the same thread, but I can't resist making an exception this time ;)
I was admiring this picture again just now (I fav things for reasons) when I realised why this image always strikes my funny bone. It has to do with my above comment about the dour-looking surrounding cars.
I just noticed that most of them are parked facing away from the lovely Jaguar like Cinderella's jealous stepsisters...
"Humph...she gets all the attention! Humph: she's the pretty one! Humph..."
