Underappreciated if there ever was underappreciation for an avian! My goodness, you've done quite well with depicting the awesome that is the shoebill. ^^ I especially love the attention to detail you paid to the coal-esque coloration on the beak. That mottle seems unique to the specimen you were studying. Was this an encounter in a zoo somewhere you sketched, and if so, where (You can always PM me if you'd rather not post the location of it publically)?

To me, shoebills fall somewhere between the pelicans and the herons...maybe an ancestoral connection?
