I dunno the sewn together lips was kind of a out-of-the-blue-symbolism type thing.

It's kind of like, you two were neglected dolls, and were thrown out or what ever. You two found each other, and fixed each other up (notice that there are no bits of stuffing hanging out, and there are more patches). You sewn your lips together to tie the bond between you and Zip with a heart shaped needle ("love hurts" sort of deal lol), and you sewn each others names into the chest to show that you are his and he is yours. And for the blood and the sewing of the lips, it also symbolizes pain that sometimes comes in a relationship, but you should move on and try to work things out so you two can still have something to smile about (thus the reason behind the ragged dolls having permanent smiles).
