Model EA

Erected by EMC (Predecessor to EMD) in 1937, serial #666 (Yep, not a typo)

The first production streamlined diesel-electric locomotive. Just like later E units it has two prime movers, in this case, two Winton V-12 Model 201A. There were 6 A units, 6 B units produced. Only #51 remains.

The models E1 and E2 were also erected in the same time frame and were largely identical mechanically.

It was withdrawn in 1953 and sent back to EMD as a trade-in. EMD removed any useful equipment (such as the generators) and it was then donated to the newly organized B&O Museum, Baltimore, MD.

It is reasonably complete for such an old locomotive, it still retains it's engines and quite a bit of the ancillary machinery. There are no plans to return it to operation. It recently received a substantial cosmetic restoration and was brought back on display in January 2021.
