One of the more common types of threats the Fairy Tale Magical Girls deal with is a type of creature known as an ‘Alt-Ender’. Alt-Enders are creatures that shouldn’t exist, but do. Things based off of stories and ideas that have gone wrong, from worlds and concepts that seemed to take a different path. Sparks of ‘possibility’ that came to life via a will and desire to exist, capable of slipping through into other realms via a mysterious miasma of energy.

Alt-Enders, at their most basic of forms, appear to be nothing more than amorphous globs, bouncing and oozing about rather aimlessly. Curious little creatures, they are prone to being distracted by the world around them, and don’t necessarily mean any harm. They can actually be pretty friendly to others if given the chance. However, if left unchecked, they can lead to a number of issues surrounding them. One such problem is the degradation of books and stories they come across. They can even attach themselves to beings that are full of creativity and feed off of their imagination and ideas.

Once an Alt-Ender gains enough power, it is capable of transforming into its ‘true form’. At this point, they no longer appear blobby and amorphous, and have the appearance of whatever ‘alternate ending or path’ they were spawned by. A Snow White killed by the enchanted apple and whose corpse is controlled by the apple growing from her throat, a Jack whose body had been ground up into flour by the giant, a Bo Peep who became a werewolf, and so many more.

At this stage, Alt-Enders are even capable of spawning more, first level, alt-enders from any story or person they grab hold of. This leading to a truly massive problem.

The job of the ‘Fairy Heroes’ is to stop the Alt-Enders from causing havoc, as well as to purify them. Through the process of purification, an Alt-Ender that has reached its final, fully powered stage ends up turning into a new fairy, who is then welcomed by the Fairy Queen to her realm.

Low level Alt-Enders, when purified, don’t become fairies. Instead, they remain as amorphous blobs that have been cured of their strife and corruptive capabilities. At this point, they become largely harmless, and in time, with enough effort, can end up becoming fairies as well if they so desire.
