Rather old piece that I brought out of storage and revamped slightly to post here.
This character looks generic, but it went through many interations and has had varying levels of significance to me over the years. Inspired by the legend of the black shuck and a town I used to live in by the Thames. Where the land and water meet, a ghostly harbinger emerges. Some tellings of its story say that to meet the shuck portends your death within a year. Other tellings liken it to spectral black dog sightings, portraying it as a benevolent guide that appears to lost and lonesome walkers. It appeals to me because of its fundamentally generic appearance that is set in constrast against the ambiguity of its nature. I do love a good spooky folktale especially when they're set close to home.
