Calipip, the quail pokemon
Calipip is a small normal-and-flying type pokeon native to the scrublands of the Osai region. It is very shy and rarely travels far from cover, since it knows that it would make a good meal for many larger predators. Although it can fly for short bursts it prefers to move about on the ground and also nests there. Prior to the most recent wave of human immigrants to Osai, calipip was not known to evolve into any other pokemon because the food it needs to evolve is not normally found there. The eyespot adorning the feather on its head is believed to help it look bigger when faced with a rival in contests for mates and territory. Calipip evolves into Fanfair if given a Shining Plum and into Fannix if given a Fiery Pomegranate.
Fanfair, the peafowl pokemon
Fainfair is a medium-sized fairy-and-flying type pokemon recently found to evolve from calipip. Because Fanfairs take such good care of their chicks, and ensure that they have a Shining Plum on hand to help them evolve right away, it was not known until relatively recently that they had a pre-evolution. Fanfair are creatures of great grace and poise, and spend hours grooming themselves to ensure not one feather is out of place. They will also groom their trainer as a way of bonding with them. Now that Shining Plums are available in Osai, a few feral colonies of fanfair have established themselves in city parks, where people are happy to feed them. They are one of the few pokemon that will stand up to a canadactyl attack.
Fannix, the paradise pokemon
Fannix is a medium-sized fire-and-flying type pokemon recently found to evolve from calipip. Because they nest in such remote, inaccessible regions, and ensure that they have a Fiery Pomegranate on hand to help their chicks evolve right away, it was not known until relatively recently that they had a pre-evolution. Fannix have long been regarded as legendary pokemon in the region where they were first discovered, and are likened to Arcanine as a divine messenger and mythical creature. It is possible these legends confuse fannixes for Ho-oh, the legendary firebird of Johto. Fannix prefer warm, arid environments so wild colonies in Osai are very rare - they present so much of a fire hazard in the drier interior of the region that there is a concerted effort by Pokemon Rangers to capture and find trainers for all feral fannixes.
