Looking for excuses to use up my Fabriano watercolour paper, since it's weirdly picky about how it lets the paint sit on it sometimes and I don't really like that. Better to just get rid of it quickly while practicing. I meant for this one to be very much a "throwaway" kind of drawing but it actually came out really well, I think.

I did a surprising amount of looking things up just to get a particularly thematic name for a very "summery" kind of character. I don't know if it's a dorky name to any native Japanese speakers, but to be fair, look at him; he's a total dork. With his sunny haori, and his gaudy katana, and his wild luscious hair, and his winning smile and positive attitude that can save a man from the brink of despair...

Oh, right, his name and the meaning behind it.

日 (hi) - day/sun
高 (daka) - high
夏 (natsu) - summer
芳 (yoshi) - fragrance

Or: "the scent of summer when the sun is high"
At least, I think that's what it means. It could very well be that I interpreted something wrong despite looking up a bunch of things about Japanese names.
