(image description: a sketchbook drawing of two figures standing next to each other. On the left is Death, a hunched cloak of feathers with a fancy collar and a floating dog skull decorated with feathers and engraved markings. On the right is Abuela Moruga, a very old goblin woman with axolotl-like frills, wearing a long skirt and a shawl, resting her hands on a cane. She is also labeled with the title of "Life". end description.)
In my fantasy world building, there are two immortal titles, essentially deities. There is Life, and there is Death. Death has only passed their title down once so far, from Primal Death to some randomly selected neanderthal who has been doing the job ever since.
Life, on the other hand, tossed its title to multiple figures, who have passed it along and retired, and this cycle repeats somewhat regularly. Right now, the Life figure who is most relevant to the story is old Abuela Moruga (though since there's no spanish in my setting, the goblin term I've made is Obeli Moruga.) She was on the front lines of the goblin revolution. She and Death have an interesting relationship lol. They are both important to the protagonist, who has been offered immortality if he will be Death's apprentice and someday take over their work.
