its development started in 1961 with for the Mersorkan Apoapsis program , it was produced by Merso.aerospace and Boeing with the purpose of being the rocket that whould launch mersorkans into the moons.
apoapsis program:
the Apoapsis program was created with the purpose of doing a manned landing on both moons , it began in 1960 and the MSA was in charge of it , the first launch was in 1961 with the AMX-22A (apoapsis 1)(test of the apoapsis module, unmanned) and the last launch was in 1982 with the AMX-23B (apoapsis 43)(last landing of a AMX-23 on the second moon, then replaced with the Mach program), the program finished in 1982 with the launch of apoapsis 43.
first moon landing:
the first moon landing was made in 1969 by the mission apoapsis 13 , putting the first mersorkans on the moon , they stayed on the moon for 2 days and then returned to the module in orbit, the first mersorkans on the moon where the astronauts: Hans Spencer and Ferdinand Cooper.
failures and problems (AMX-23):
-apoapsis 9 RCS system on the apoapsis module stopped working on lunar orbit , it was fixed hours later, no more problems
-apoapsis 14 central engine got turned off during mid-flight, it restarted 25 seconds later , rocket countinued to orbit, no more problems.
-apoapsis 17 first stage exploded mid-flight, the crew was able to abort Safely and land on the ocean.
-apoapsis 20 lander was not able to land due various problems with the computer , landing was aborted, returned home with no problems
-apoapsis 25 engines did not lit on the first try , launched with no problem 2 hours later
-apoapsis 38 antena stopped working letting the crew with no conection for 6 hours during lunar orbit , was fixed later , no more problems
main differences with the saturn V:
-AMX 23 is taller than a saturn V
-AMX-23 has 8 engines on the first stage , saturn V only has 5
-lander is longer due a second stage placed in it
-AMX-23 has bigger fins
