As the light flickers, you find yourself stumbling through the darkened building. Each flash of light blinding you before once more your vision is stolen away.
Urban exploration always had its risks. Running through a chaotic maze of abandoned buildings and concrete paths that usually end up winding into somewhere inconvenient. For the prepared, however, the risks were worth the adventure. Being able to see sights that had been all but lost to the public eye. The hobby truly had its moments of beauty in between the corrosion and crumbling work.
For you, however, luck had conspired against you. First, you lost your flashlight. Its light fading in your hands as the old batteries died. Then, you lost your rope. The darkness eating up the winding strand with relish when a bad knot you had tied came undone.
It was official. You were lost and without your equipment, you had no hope of finding your way out. You could only press on in the flickering darkness. Maybe then you could stumble upon a landmark or something.
"Need a hand?" came a voice from the darkness before you and your heart stopped in fright.
Standing in the shadows, their ears and hair glowing blue, was an Anthro Umbreon. His fur melted into the dark crevices and if he had not activated his glow then you would have missed him completely.
Holding out a paw, he smiled, his eyes brightening with an inner light. "Here, I'll help get you out of here."
When it comes to characters that can control an inner light, I always find myself rather fascinated. What process must have come together to allow for such a biological reaction to occur? We talk about the creatures of the deep with their bioluminescent properties but in mammalian entities? It's a strange thought but an entertaining one.
Ahhh to control your own glow. I'd believe we were in the future if I ever saw that happen.
