Odri is a member of the Uma'itay, a species of telekinetic aliens. They're descended from humans onboard long-term colony ships who, faced with dangerous surroundings and a materials shortage, were forced to genetically modify their children with alien DNA so they could survive in their new environment, drawing power and biological support from their computers. But it's been so many generations since then that they don't remember it happened, and they're so far away from our galaxy that they don't have "real" humans to compare themselves to. (At least, not yet...)

They use psychic abilities to draw power directly from the ships' engines, and use that power to move around, manipulate their "wings", and keep their bodies going without needing food (what remains of their digestive systems is only for water intake). Their eyes, skin, and hair are all human, but they lack limbs, ears, or noses. Their antennae provide auditory, olfactory, and electromagnetic input.
