You know I can't believe it took the Santa Fe so long to order DC traction.
They were one of the last to get it before they merged with BN.
If I remember right the SD75Is were the last order Santa Fe made before they merged in 1995 which is a real shame since most of the life of these units has been spent in patches of former paint.

A lot of BN's SD9s were kept in excellent shape.
I know where they are hiding mostly up in the Twin Cities area.
BNSF could of done what UP and CSX did though CSX is now finding out it's older units are more reliable and is bring them back into service.
I think BNSF saw how incredibly great SD9s are for yard work so that's why they've kept them so long.
Its too bad I have to go almost thirty hours to see an SD9 but that's the way it is.
