shame this dumb website doesnt support uploading mp4s or id upload the clips of me insanely bobbing paper cutouts about with no audio. mostly i still think it's remarkable how much of a sense of Depth you get with the background here despite it being just a few broad marker lines on a sheet of paper. something about Low Fidelity Mediums makes your brain see more than is really there
idea was to do a show like this, of course. i was jazzed about Box Peek... but it turns out that theres an incredible amount of planning each shot and cut... and i barely got past having a kinda lame script. and was starting to realise that by the time id drawn each cutout and spent hours in editing trying to line up the cuts between "expressions" itd be easier to just Actually Animate something
i also got distracted trying to find functional analog video cameras. theyre all dying due to bad capacitors, and i had zero luck trying to replace the bad capacitors since leaky capacitors also wreck the traces and any nearby connectors that get contaminated. on top of that very few domestic camcorders offer you any real controls, despite being festooned with buttons (that largely turn out to do useless stuff like set the time and date, change the colour of the title text, fade to black, fade to white...), so you cant lock down and control the exposure settings easily. i feel the way to go now would've been to shoot and edit stuff from a modern digital camera, and just feed it into a vhs tape to finalize it. there's also problems in the tape and capture methods resulting in slowly pulsing brightness that would make it difficult to seamlessly cut to the same shot with a different puppet
but really i just couldnt make "SCIINC" work good as a story. something about scientists on the sex planet, i don't know
