Basic lineart of one of the minor characters, showing how Lion-lizard faces are suppose to be, given, clock always wears a mask, And Heart is not a Lion-lizard. This serves as a little background into the socioty of Lion-lizards, who are primarily a caste driven system, revolving around status as to whom is right. From the highest of the high, to the lowest in the dirt, Everyone is out to get thier way, no one is free from their crimes. It's just a matter of how each indivigual person treats others.

Lion-lizards are meant to be a hybrid between Desert dwelling reptiles, and Lions, acquiring traits from both groups. Reptile skin, and bone structures, while having a Mane(on both male and female), with mammal ears, and other traits of mammals.

In their isolated society, They have a social caste system, holding it almost as law over how someone should be treated, and how much weight they carry simply by existing.

The caste goes as follows:

Aloft(Dynast Lion-lizard)
Aloft feature two sets of wings on their backs, One larger than the other, but both functional. They are seen as the highest status, nearly untouchable in regards to bringing anything against them, unless you yourself are an Aloft, or you are acting outside of the law. Few and far between, They are a sight to behold.

Scion(horned Lion-lizard)
Scion's have horns protruding from their upper head, mirroring the appearance of a second set of ears. Despite having no proper function anymore, they were used as a defensive tool when struck in the head, acting as a bracer, or limiting the damage to more sensitive areas. within Scion's, they usually hold smaller horns in high regard, especially those whom have them hidden completely, and refuse to show their status to others unprovoked. Some often get mistaken for Abject.

Absolved (Jagged Lion-lizards)
Absolved feature rigged spikes on their lower jaw, and upper neck, While not sturdy, they are seen as an extension of the mane. The larger the riffles the more enticing the Absolved is believed to be to others. Why they evolved to have this fold is unclear, but it may have just been a leftover trait from more aquatic times that never fazed out. They move in a funny pattern when in water(this pleases most people.)

Jester(Winged Lion-lizard)
Dispite having wings like Aloft, they are held in the center of the social system, Often times left to their own devices, as they are not the lowest of the low, but still low enough to be deemed unwanted guest. Jester's are viewed as an inbetweener for the higher caste, And a friend to the lower caste. Stuck in the middle, they often vary in how they conduct themselves, and whom they associate with.

Horned (Maw Lion-lizards)
Horned are characterized by small horns on the corners of their mouths, forming in either sets of 2 or 4. They are considered the lowest of the "Featured" Lion-lizards, but still hold themselves high in regards to their minor status tier. The bumps are cartilage rather than bone, and can be surgically removed, but most chose not to remove them in fear of losing their status, often times resulting in an unfortunate death due to complications regarding restricted airways, or growths they refused to address.

Abject (blank Lion-lizard)
Abject have no distinguishable features aside from their lack of any features. Most Abject are born to Lion-lizards of mismatching classes, and were unfortunate enough to end up with neither of their features, lowering themselves to a level they should not have been lowered to. Despite this, Abject have a much more diverse set of traits due to their mixed parent backgrounds, producing healthy children, who can gain a feature that their parents did not have, but their grandparents had, Elevating them in the social ladder later in life. Most Abject are content with this, and merely wish to one day give someone else a better life, while also being happy in their own. Abject are a majority of all Lion Lizards, but do not contribute to the number of Disgraced

Bound(Bound Lion-lizards)
Often called "Disgraced", This cast is made up of Lion-lizards who had comitted a crime in the eyes of the law, or thier social caste. Weather they murdered someone, or simply became friends with someone of too low of a caste, they would be punished.
Punishment for all Classes is the same; Thier defineing features would be stripped from them, And thier face marked up beyond recongnition. Weather or not the Disgraced survives thier punishment is usually a second though, to the message it represents.
A fall from somewhere, to be bound to the lowest area possible. Aloft and Jester's have the highest rate of death when undergoing punishment, offten times bleeding to death due to the amount of main veins that flow to their wings, and the shock of having bones ripped out of them. The notibale exeption to this is Abjects. Who simply have thier faced carved up, with no other damage done.
Once the punishment is over, and thier wounds have healed, They are provided a Mask to wear, to hid thier faces from the world.
They may do what ever they feel like doing to the mask, aslong as they wear it and chose a new name to be called. Offten times, they will keep thier Last name, witch is thier Birth Status, Be it Aloft, or Horned, or chose a new last name of the status teir of thier significant other. Once the are turned loose into the world, they are at the mercy of everyone else, forced to live life at the whim of those who would happily snuff them out. Bound are more likely to be accused of crimes, while also commiting crimes against other disgraced.


Lion-lizards are a brutal species. They have rules, and laws, but favor status over order. It dosen't matter if your right if someone higher than you says you lie. Ayan lost everything due to this, And now, Clockwork Jester has full reign to do as he pleases, in the name of Judgement. Lowest of the status, but holding the highest power.
