This wasn’t supposed to happen. It should have been an easy deal; just like so many deals before.
But it went south so, so fast. This thought raced through the Nelvaanian woman’s mind as she fled down the streets and alleyways of the city she reluctantly called home.
Taking a moment to catch her breath, the azure furred Nelvaanian; Ashden, panted with exhaustion as clutched her few belongings and rubbed her belly, swollen with the newly orphaned children whose father was murdered just a few short hours ago.
“Where is it? Where is it?!” Ashden thought frantically. The pregnant Nelvaanian woman was running on pure adrenaline by that stage, her lungs burning as her muscles ached. Never in her life could she have ever imagined being in a situation like this.
Then again she thought, Her life had always been a bit complicated. Enslaved at a young age, Ashden had the choice of either being kept in a slave camp or being sold as a concubine. Choosing the latter, she was eventually sold to a rich merchant; who spirited her away to this planet. As one would expect, Ashden quickly ended up bearing his children thanks to their nightly sessions together but living with this man, Ashden also grew in more ways than just her womb. She became a skilled trader managing the wares and liquid assets of her master’s business. And to her surprise, he allowed her to help manage more and more to alleviate his own strain. But then that all changed early this morning when his latest deal fell through with a curse, his client’s blaster, and his brains splattered over the wall behind him.
Fearing a fate worse than death should her master’s murderers capture her, Ashden had swiftly gathered what few belongings she owned, taken control of her master’s accounts and booked an emergency flight out of the system. Her would-be escape vessel was owned by someone named Rochelle; who had worked for her former master on a few occasions.
The smuggler was well known and was currently docked at the city’s main spaceport. So with everything to lose and nobody to trust, Ashden began her escape. running to the spaceport as fast as she could, she swiftly began to realize how out of shape she was, burdened with a heavy litter of pups, she was swiftly growing winded.
As she leant against the wall in that alleyway, she suddenly remembered where she was. She’d nearly made it, and was just outside the spaceport where her smuggler transport had said she would be waiting for her. Escape was within sight and after a few more moments collecting herself, she hefted her pack and put one supportive hand beneath her belly, before beginning as calm a walk as she could in that direction; But not before her unborn children stirred within her womb, a rock of calm to focus the otherwise turbulent storm of her mind.
Placing her hand upon the firm curvature of her midsection, Ashden quietly soothed her brood.
“Don’t worry children. Momma’s not gonna let anything bad happen to you. We’re getting out of here, and to somewhere safe and secure.”
A personal piece featuring a new character name Ashden, the Nelvaanian. Was a fun thing that spurs from talking with some folks for a while. I might share more soon.
