I had always assumed that Ogres descended from men under a curse or spell. This is just about as WEIRD as the notion, also fully explained, of flatworms (Planarians) evolving from -mammals !
In the book SNOUTERS, describing and classifying the order RHINOGRADENTIA in which the nose is highly developed for exotic functions such as walking, securing prey, or sound productions. There are 4 suborders, (1-nosed, 4-nosed, 6-nosed and 38-nosed (pipe-organ snouters)). Many of the families in the 1-nosed snouters are ext. degenerate. The snout is oft enlarged to exceed the mass of the rest of the animal. Finally it has become the WHOLE of the animal and the nasal mucosa becomes the body surface.
Only one family retains the ancient ability to use legs for walking. The nose is already greatly enlarged and is used to stand on when feeding. In all other families, the nose has evolved entirely new functions.
