<Sealight Family Abode, Livingroom - Day of Round 1, 9:47 PM>
"Sally, I'm so proud of you!"
Sally returns home late, soon to find her hair roughed up by her father, who's smiling greatly. "I heard you won!"
Sally smiles as well, fixing up her hair with her hands, though her smile fades a bit soon after. "...heard?"
Her father hesitates a bit. "Well, you see, I couldn't find a way to manage the time off... And on top of that one of my co-workers got sick, and the store needed me there more than ever. But that friend of yours managed to tell me what she saw. Maple, I think."
Sally sighs a bit. "...Is there any chance you can make it to the next match then? It's a few days from now..."
There's a bit of silence between the two. "I'll try Sally. I'll try as hard as I can to get some time off then."
Sally smiles again, moving closer to give a quick hug. "Thanks, Dad." She then moves back, heading to her room. "I'm going to be training again tomorrow, so..."
Her father, however, speaks up once again. "Sally, I know you're trying hard, and again I'm proud of you... But you should rest once in a while too, especially since you had your first battle today. How about you go to the park sometime?"
Sally blinks. She didn't think about it much, but she soon realizes how much more time she's spent training recently. "R-right! Thanks..." She yawns, then heads to her room for a well-deserved rest.
<Poké Combat Academy, Gym - Monday, 1:00 PM>
At the moment, Sally works hard once again to prepare herself for round 2. Although much better with her special attacks over any physical combat, she opts for a physical workout today to build up her endurance. After a few minutes she wipes her brow, grabbing a bottle of water. "Phew..."
Soon, Maple makes her way into the gym, holding a few papers. She spots Sally, heading over as she does. "Okay, I looked up what I could on this guy. So why couldn't you do this again? It's kinda boring to do this, and I'm sure you can do this better than I can."
Sally ers... "Well... from what I looked up, my next opponent is a senior... And I need to prepare a lot if I want to be able to win... So I'm trying to train up even more."
Maple hms... "Okay I guess you have a point there. Now then... Well, the guy you're up against is a Jolteon. He looks like he likes to get up close and personal with some sort of dancey style or something, I wouldn't know. And he looks to use special attacks as much as you do. Either way, you're gonna have to aim pretty good against him. I'm sure you know by now his name's Tesla Veo."
Sally nods, then looks back at Maple. "So you watched him?"
Maple lets out a short chuckle. "Hah, for a few hours, maybe. I found loads of this stuff online though. You'd be surprised what videos they've got up there. But yeah, I've got a few links here on these notes, so you can study him up. They're recent too. I'm surprised how many people sneak their cameras in the audience."
Sally blinks, putting her hand to her head in thinking position. "Huh... And thanks, Maple. Wait, you're going to be watching, right?"
Maple rubs the back of her head, a nervous laugh slipping out. "Eh... I really want to, but Hans is trying to get me to go to one of mom's and dad's fancy dinner parties. And you know how he is when it comes to this kind of thing, when I'm forced to set up for those I'm gone for the whole day."
Sally sighs. "Well... okay..."
Maple hands her notes to Sally before she starts off. "Anyhow, that's all I've got, I need to go snag some food. See ya later, Sally."
Sally nods, then looks to the notes handed to her, trying to decipher Maple's handwriting. "Uh... I can't really make anything of this... It's a bit too... fancy..."
<Ferndale Park - Monday, 3:22 PM>
Having spent the first half of the day studying up, Sally digs through a bag of bread crumbs, throwing them down on the grass for the Pidgey in the vicinity. She smiles a bit, throwing a bit more as two of the Pidgey squabble. "I guess Dad's right... I do need to rest a bit more. But it's back to training in full tomorrow..."
Sally continues to feed the birds bread crumbs until the sound of ringing is heard on her person. She takes out a cell phone, opening it up to take the call.
"Sally! Good work!" The voice at the other end was Yuichi's.
Sally blinks, as she certainly wasn't expecting this. "Oh, uh... hi Yuichi... Where are you at?"
Yuichi answers the question quickly. "Around Mt. Moon. Just a detour on the way back, you know? Anyhow, Maple told me about the fight. You sounded like you did great out there! Now keep it up! I don't know who your next opponent is, though, since she didn't tell me that. Did you check?"
Sally hesitates to answer. "Uh, n-no... Not yet..."
"Well make sure to check! You have to prepare yourself after all--huh? Now? Hey Sally, I gotta get going, so see you later then!" And with that the line cuts off. Sally attempts to slip a goodbye in, but it's lost after the cutoff.
She's then approached by a Jolteon, who promptly speaks up. "You don't mind if I sit here, right?"
Sally hesitates once again. "Uh... uh... no, I don't mind..."
"Thanks." The jolteon places himself on an empty spot on the bench. "So who was calling?"
Sally fidgets a bit. "Er... well, a friend."
The Jolteon smiles, leaning back on the bench. "Ah, I see! And are you enjoying yourself here?"
"Uh... yes." Sally seems a bit unnerved, but the Jolteon keeps smiling.
"Good for you, then. I'm here after a bit of training, myself. Just hanging out with a few friends." The Jolteon sits up a bit more, looking at the pidgey that are starting to fly off with their crumbs.
Sally nods slightly. "Oh, uh... okay."
The Jolteon then looks Sally straight in the eyes. "Come on, relax a little more! That's what you came here for, right?"
Sally stutters a bit. "B-but, I am relaxed."
The Jolteon shakes his head. "Don't worry. Hey, how I get you some ice cream to calm yourself?"
Sally blinks once again. "No, you don't have to... really--"
Soon another voice is heard coming towards the two. "Hey, isn't that your dad over there?" Maple walks in, pointing towards the parking lot. Sally peers over, spotting her father, then nodding in the Jolteon's direction. "Well, nice meeting you, uh..."
"Call me Storm" The Jolteon nods as he greets himself.
"Uh right, thanks! I need to be going..." The Mareep soon heads to the parking lot, while Maple stays with Storm.
"I didn't think I'd see you here. I made sure to catch your battle just in case. By the way, you're not trying anything, are you?" Maple raises an eyebrow at the last part of her line
Storm loses his smile as he responds. "I would never try anything like that, I just wanted to get to know her better. And I want to make sure we both get to know each other before the battle."
Maple shrugs. "Well she's kinda going all over the place recently so good luck with that. By the way... I talked to your last opponent earlier. He said you gave him a list of what you could do?
Storm nods. "Yeah, I--"
Maple holds her hand up, stopping Storm from speaking. "Don't do that again. That's just stupid. If it were me, I'd take full advantage of it. As for Sally? Well, I'm sure she'd rather study up on it..." She coughs a bit, mumbling about her studying for Sally. "...rather than let her opponent tell her everything. She's been trying pretty hard here, so don't disappoint her by doing something stupid like telling everything or holding back."
Storm nods in response. "Well, sure then."
<Poké Combat Academy, Arena - Day of Round 2, 10:55 AM>
Once again, after all of her training and studying, Sally takes in everything, breathing deeply. She's geared up for battle, and she's realized that her opponent was the Jolteon she met from earlier. She sighs a bit, then redirects her train of thought towards the arena. She surveys the arena, which has been set up in preparation for the battle.
"...and on this side, SALLY SEALIGHT!"
Sally makes her way to center stage at the call, making note of the larger slabs, obelisks, and a few of the uneven stone walls of the arena. Once she's there, she joins the referee and comes face-to-face with Storm.
"Hey, are you feeling more relaxed now?"
Sally blinks. "I was perfectly relaxed before..."
The Jolteon grins. "Well you're sounding good now. I was hoping to find you and talk to you more before now, but since the battle's just about to begin, I guess all I can say is... Let's have a fair, fun fight now, okay?"
Sally hesitates a bit, but nods. "R-right."
The referee looks between the two. "You two are ready, right?" Nods and agreements come from both sides, and the referee steps back. "Now that that's done, FIGHT!"
----
The first move goes to Storm, as he quickly summons up a yellow sheet of light that surrounds him, allowing better protection from her special attacks. He then moves in quicker than Sally can back up, launching two swift, energy packed kicks that stagger her as she summons her safeguard rings. She takes on her safeguard glow and quickly puts her arms up to block, but Storm's reaction to this is to swerve around Sally then place a hand on the ground to stand on as he swings his legs around, making contact with the Mareep in the back and sending her tumbling forward. "Come on Sally, you can do better than that!"
Sally manages to stop on her knees, forcing a few sparks and bits of sand off as she shakes her head. As Storm starts to rush in again, Sally puts her wrists back to back, firing out a brilliant-cut power gem. The brown gem quickly flies forward, hitting the Jolteon hard and sending him a fair ways back. Although disrupted by the tumbling that's damaging him more than the direct attack, he manages to get to his feet before he stops, and flips back to stop his momentum. As he does, he phases into a set of hazy images. Sally blinks, but quickly forms up another crystalline power gem projectile with a tick to her metronome. However, this time she directs it slightly downward. The gem slams into the ground about halfway to Storm's position, but when it hits it shatters into a large amount of smaller, less uniform gems that fly out in a spread. The gem shards cover the whole area of the double team attempt, striking Storm and sending him back to the ground once again, making him accumulate more sand in the process.
Using this time to gain some distance Sally soon gets to her feet, wincing a bit from the damage she took earlier as she runs over to one of the lower stone walls. During this time, Storm quickly makes his way up, quickly starting to close the gap between the two. As he does, he stick an arm out to launch an outwardly-spreading thunderbolt at Sally. However, the thunderbolt fizzles out a bit from the sand on his person, and it completely misses Sally as she makes it to the wall, rolling over it and landing behind. "Okay, not doing that again."
Storm's light screen fades as he makes it to the wall and jumps it, just in time to get blasted by another large energy gem, courtesy of Sally from right at the bottom of the wall. Sally's ambush attack sends the Jolteon straight into an obelisk, forcing both him and it to fall back into the ground. Storm takes a bit more time to get up this time, the look on his face noting how much more effective the last attack was. Sally keeps this in mind, but keeps an eye on Storm.
Not long after Storm works himself up, he shakes his head then keeps an eye on Sally. Once Sally fires another gem at Storm, he leaps up, evading the attack and landing on one of the tall stone slabs. Sally fires once again, aiming a little low with another metronome tick to attempt to intercept, but Storm uses a different path than expected, jumping to move to a taller obelisk as he fires a few small, thin yellow needles at Sally. Sally takes less than half of the pin missile attack due to a bit of poor aim, but it distracts her long enough for Storm to start one last jump; one directed straight at her. Sally notices this and fires another large gem, attempting to have it split right on him. Much to her surprise, though, Storm manages to roll along the bottom facets to minimize the impact of the attack. And as it splits, the Jolteon takes only a few shards as he launches a swift kick right in Sally's gut, many sparks flying off her body as she's sent tumbling back into a large stone slab, knocking the wind out of her as she slumps there, her safeguard glow fading to nothing.
----
Sally's father soon makes it to the arena's audience, rushing in and pushing his away around to make an attempt to the front. She comes in just as Sally's sent straight into the slab. "Oh no, I already missed some of it... Sally! Hang in there!"
----
All seems lost as Sally can't react to anything coming, and while somewhat winded himself, Storm holds a grin as he lands on his feet...
...until he falls to a knee with a bit of a spark. While the sand seems to have blocked the flow of electricity to and from Storm, a light static charge managed to make it through to his leg during his kick on Sally, paralyzing him. Meanwhile, Sally attempts to get up, trying to fight the quick drain of her energy from the swift flying kick, but to no avail. She sits there, panting for another second as she makes an attempt to move. I... need to get up... I can't lose like this... I need... to keep... going...
"Sally! Hang in there!"
Sally blinks. That was her dad! She makes one more attempt to move, resolved to win as her dad watches on. She doesn't manage to get to her feet just yet, but she puts all of her focus into another crystalline power gem, her metronome ticking like crazy from the excess usage, and fires directly at Storm. The Jolteon struggles to fight off his numbed leg, but is stuck standing there as he only manages to make an attempt to block the gem, sending him rocketing back into the obelisk he jumped off earlier.
Storm lies there, down, and down hard. The referee moves in to look him over and but moves back without a call. Sally looks over, thinking she's won, though she's confused as to why there isn't a call.
Why that is, though, is soon revealed. Storm soon moves once again, just slightly, but soon, he manages to make it to his feet. From the looks of things, he managed to endure the attack, allowing him to barely scrape through. Furthermore, he still has energy to spare and a very strong resolve to win, and he holds his hands out, an inverted black-and-white coming from in front of them. Sally barely makes her way to her footing, attempting to stumble away from the charging hyper beam. Storm grins once more as he sticks his arms out further. "This was fun... But it's ending now." And with that, a powerful monochrome beam of energy shoots out, heading straight for Sally.
Once the beam dissipates, all that's seen at the bottom of the slab Sally slammed into is a gaping hole. No sign of a fainted opponent whatsoever... Storm blinks, uncertain of the result as he stands there, stuck in place. Sally soon stumbles out from a nearby slab, panting heavily. She shakily puts her arms up as her legs wobble, forming a gem and pointing it at Storm. She was uncertain if a single hit would do the trick, and she had only enough energy for this last power gem. But then, she recalled the obelisk Storm slammed into.
I hope this works...
She redirects her shot towards the obelisk, the gem hitting it dead on and shattering to spread its damage, leaving a gaping dent on the structure. Storm, now aware of Sally's location, is confused as to why she didn't hit him directly... until he hears the sound of cracking stone. With his body locked up from his exhaustion and his hyper beam use, he's directly hit by the falling obelisk, pinning him to the ground and knocking him out. The referee moves in to confirm this, then makes his call.
"The victory goes to... SALLY SEALIGHT!"
Sally soon falls to her hands and knees, unable to move any longer, though with the battle over she has no more need to at the moment. Her father sighs in relief at Sally's comeback, then smiles.
<Poké Combat Academy - Arena Seating, 11:40 PM>
Sally shivers a bit, still jittery from the battle as she drinks a small cup of water. After getting healed up, she spends the time here to relax. Soon, she's joined by Storm himself.
"There you are! That was a great battle out there. I'm surprised how strong you are, there!"
Sally blinks. She hesitates a bit, somewhat thrown off by the compliment. "R-r-really? I mean... Well... uh... Thanks..."
Storm pats Sally on the back. "Yeah. We should do this again sometime."
Sally coughs a bit in shock. "Uh... maybe... another time..." This prompts the Jolteon to let out a short chuckle.
"Yeah, another time. See you later, then." Storm then walks off, joining up with a nearby Ninetales as they start discussing the battle. Sally herself is soon joined up with her father.
"Great job, Sally! That was amazing work, there!"
Sally blinks, but smiles as she looks over to her father. "Dad! You saw the whole thing, right?"
Her father looks around a bit, a bit hesitant to answer. "Well, I only managed to make it at the end... But I'm sure you did well as a whole."
Sally blinks, then frowns a bit. "Oh..." This is met with a quick roughing up of her hair by her father.
"Look, Sally, I tried to come on time, honest."
Sally sighs again, but shakes her head. "That's okay... There's always next round... I guess..."

It's a bit too... fancy..."

I guess..."
