That's Benny. x3 Benny is my clumsy, accident prone rat. xD He seems to be a little, tiny bit better, but I can't really tell. x3 And he can't really tell me. xD but that reminds me that he is due for another dose of medicine.
...which he absolutely loves. xD He thinks I'm giving him a treat.

LOL yeah, in his defense, it's the same as "the pink stuff" I used to get from my doctor for strep throat, which was the best damn medicine ever, and I also considered it a joy to take.
Yeah, so far, Benny has been ripped open by another rat (who now lives in his own cage), which took a LOT of stitches: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3030636/
He's LOST BOTH HIS TOP FRONT TEETH because his idiot self decided to try to bite a bottle from inside the cage (they grew back in like 2 days)
Mochi has given him a good bite once or twice (which he deserved -- Mochi is very submissive, but Benny still insists on showing how dominant he is)
And now he's got this. x3
He also falls off of things a lot. He has NO co-ordination at all. xD

you have a pet rat? D:
I just adopted two baby rats, Moose and Bailey, and when I brought them home Bailey was happy but Moose was scared, day later Moose is crawling all over me and Bailey is scared shitless of me. I've tried giving them treats (frosted flakes, strawberries, lettuce, granola, mango, etc), I've never dropped either of them or done anything but set their cage up, pet them and talk softly, and pick them up underneath the belly and back legs and let them crawl in my lap. Bailey is still scared shitless and I got him on the 29th.
I own two cats but neither of them have done anything, not even looked at them. Not in the least bit interested. I've held them while smelling like cat, as well as just after a shower. I don't get it, no matter what I do Bailey won't even vaguely warm up to me. asdfhkl
T^T
I can't find any information on it either.
His eyes are clear, I've checked his feet for bumblefoot, his balls seem to be okay and I've checked all over him, in his ears, his eyes, his nose, whiskers, tail, he's not sick.

It sounds like he is just a little shy, maybe he hadn't been handled properly as a very young rat. I have had anti-social, fearful rats before. It makes you feel so bad that they are so scared of you! But I promise you, if you keep working with him, within...3 months, you should see some improvement. I have seen rats that I swore were hopeless, go from absolutely terrified animals to loving cuddle bugs in a year. It just takes patience, and time. :3 If the rat is afraid to be lifted, pet him while he is on solid ground. If he is afraid of contact, give him a little while to get used to you, and let him sniff you occasionally.
Keep me updated! :D I wish you the best of luck!

XD Probably. He's warmed up to me a little bit, he still bolts when I try to pet him but not as frantically, and when I walk over to the cage he'll sniff and nibble my fingers. I can pick him up without too much hassle, and I bought the two a hamster ball yesterday and some new bedding, and put poor Bailey in a pitcher and Moose in the ball while I washed the two of them with some baby shampoo and Bailey adored it. He just loved getting a bath. Was the most still in my hand since I got him two weeks ago.
The sawdust in some Carefresh bedding I was using almost killed Moose. He's better now though =3
They're both extremely young rats. All the rats I saw at Petco and Petsmart, even the smallest/youngest were bigger than Moose and Bailey. Moose can't be more than 3-4 months old and Bailey can't be more than 6 months old.
I'm glad I got them this young XD

Tell me if your rats like the ball! I have tried it on mine -- they HHHHHHHATED it. A word does not exist for how much they disliked that ball. xD xD xD
I got rid of it ASAP. x3
And there was sawdust in your CareFresh? D: That's scary -- I buy CareFresh to avoid that! I thought it was safe. -_-

Moose I'm not sure, he likes being in my lap more than -anything- XD
I have to shove him into the ball and practically crowbar his paws off the side of the ball to put him in there T^T and then fight with him to close the lid without catching one of his toes in the way XD;
he LOATHES the ball.
When I finally get him in there he just kinda sits there like "T^T halp"
but I dunno if it's because he doesn't like the ball or because he's sick. I don't know how to fix his sickness either asdfhjkl
the heavy harsh breathing came back, but his eyes aren't glazed or hazy, he eats fine, drinks fine, I don't geeet iiiit
Bailey loves it though, he barrels around in it slamming into various cats and then realizes there's cats and freezes in his ball until I put him back in the cage, then back in the ball, rinse and repeat. XD
Yeah! Sawdust and wood chips all in it. It came in a guinnea pig cage kit though, that I got for my birthday along with the boys just a week ago. I bought some different CareFresh bedding for them, some weird cotton looking stuff but it ain't cotton...and Moose's symptoms came back. I'm gonna take all the bedding out and put paper towels back in because moose's symptoms went away when I used plain paper towels...it might be the bedding that's causing it, I had a sneezing fit when I opened the bag from all the dust. friggin Carefresh.

I'm not a vet, so I can't say anything for sure, but I find that my rats get kind of "sniffly" when the seasons change, just like humans do. x3 That may be what your rattie has, since he's still eating fine (when my rats are sniffly for other reasons, they stop eating), but again, I am not a vet, so don't quote me on that. x3
...That worries me! I use CareFresh all the time...I changed once to some...Sunseed? Something that was recycled newspaper, and ALL THE RATS got sick. xD If you find a better bedding, let me know!

Well, he's not eating fine anymore and he's really dehydrated (skin test). Yesterday he was super dehydrated so I gave him some celery and he weakly nibbled it and this morning he was doing better. I hope he's going to pull out okay. I gave him a little bit of dark chocolate and "FerretRX" upper respiratory relief drops (like Vick's Vapo Rub for small animals) ...
it doesn't seem to be doing much.
I've pinpointed it either a Mycoplasmosis flare up or pneumonia. I really hope it's the first one. I really, really hope it's the first one.
He's really weak, doesn't drink or eat that I can see and he's gasping for breath still. I'm trying all I can short of taking him to the vet, because we can't afford a vet (I know, I'm a horrible person for getting a pet without being able to afford a vet - you'd understand if you knew the vets in the area)
I'm searching for some Baytril tablets online to feed to him in small doses every once in a while, see if that'll help him, it apparently helps with either a myco flare up or pneumonia.
asdhfjk
I also had to give Bailey back to the pet store. He was snapping, aggressive and kept attacking Moose. I got another, younger, smaller male in place and named him Goat and Goat shares his food with Moose instead of hoarding it and cleans Moose instead of attacks him.
I'm currently just using paper towels at the bottom and changing it frequently. T^T
