With how drekir work on that side of life things like sexuality are often treated far more casually than what a human might find in the acceptable range of conversation, especially someone like an American (like myself)
but to a drek its essentially a casual activity not unlike any general social activity

"It's just a child. Gonna chuck 'em by the side of the road later anyway. Hey, why don't you lay some eggs and we'll throw 'em together."
Why is Oli having such a hard time seeing these people as having any kind of civilization? Even in human society we have a time honored tradition of throwing eggs the buildings of people we hate.

Yeah drekir are... really casual about things like sexuality and eggs and whatnot. Eggs are a dime a dozen and sexuality is in most cultures pretty casual. They also don't really have parental instincts at all, so casually referring someone to someone else is pretty common.
I mean granted it is a cultural reaction about those sorts of matters, whether Oli sees that or not, it is a cultural mindset

Not really, drekir tend to naturally form dens either through their childhood or, if that is not available, gradually through the people they meet and get along with along the way. Even drekir who are left alone due to tragic or punishment related reasons tend to form new groups with other outcasts/lone survivors. Or otherwise integrate into other dens in other societies.
It's very rare for a drek to spend an incredibly long period of time alone though hermits do sometimes happen (one might be in the future of the story). Though drekir do not handle being solitary for long periods of time very well at all and it can lead to a lot of various psychological problems. In a way like how humans can suffer emotional and mental damage from solitary life but more extreme

The font is working perfectly! It retains the flavor of the comic, but is perfectly legible. I thought the kerning might be off on some of the capital letters, but it's just spacing to fit in the word balloon.
At first blush, such a casual attitude towards the young seems a bit callous? But if they're laying eggs every few weeks, then it becomes a practical matter, especially if the young are mostly left to fend for themselves. It's going to be interesting to see how the lore plays out!
And finally, I really like how they reuse bits and pieces of the old world. The one who laid the eggs seem to have used some small window panes, or maybe bits of plastic, to make a pair of large goggles for themselves.

Thanks! The Kerning is kinda an issue I am working on fixing but may just need to manually tweak as its something to do with how the sofware formats my writing thats messing up. Kinda a bummer be cést la vie, ill fix it as I go and tweak with the font to improve it over time.
Drekir don't form parental bonds with their kids and the opposite is also true, kids don't bond with their parents and its just kinda how drekir operate in regards to parenthood. Raising kids isn't an endeavor of love so much as practicality and its why generational "dens" of drekir who grew up together take a lot of the social functions as a human genetic family... except for denmates seeing eachother as mates which kinda makes calling them a "family" a bit icky.
Oh yeah I love to do little bits of that here and there! Most of the stuff drekir wear is locally made but there is a notable bit of stuff here and there that is made of scavenged materials. While its not obvious since I draw simplistically the intention on the ropes that bind Forls backmat to his legs are meant to be Paracord, Piker had the mask made of a Traffic cone, etc.
Plastic pane goggles was just a fun idea I had for a drek walking through the deserts of the north Owyhee

A fun idea perhaps, but a bloody brilliant one!
The deserts of the American West get seasonal daily wind storms that start at around noon, and blow until around 4PM. And if you happen to be in the desert when a proper thunderstorm is on the horizon, you'd best get under some hard cover. So yeah, eye coverings are a smart idea!

It depends on the desert! The Owyhee in the comic does have wind storms and as someone who lives in the Owyhee high xeric I can say personally that "yeah the windstorms do come pretty hard". Though they aren't really daily from my experience, sometimes once a month.
From what I've gathered deserts like the Mojave have more frequent windstorms though the Owyhee definitely isn't alone in that

We had a customer is New Mexico, whose circuit was bouncing every day. It would start around 12, and keep bouncing in and out until around 3:30 or so. Just up-down-up-down-up-down. It was driving us and the customer crazy!
I was talking with a tech on another circuit, and happened to mention this one, and she asks where it was. I told her, and she says, "Oh, I know that place! It's their microwave dish!"
She explains that the site is on top of a mesa, and nobody wanted to run powerlines or phone lines up there, so they have microwave links, which are line-of-sight. You just point the dish at the far end of the connection, and voila! You have comms. But the beam is about as thick as a pencil lead, so if the dish is off by so much as a millimeter, it'll be off by several meters at the far end.
She explained that the local winds would start at around noon, and blow until 4, and their dish was rocking back and forth in the gale!
So I called the customer and asked if their circuit was bouncing right now. It was. I asked if the wind was blowing. It was! I said, "Is your antenna rocking back and forth?" Why yes, yes it is! "Add guywires to make that stop." The customer was silent for a moment, then was like, "Son of a @#&%^!!!" They called in a contractor to add more support to the antenna, and that fixed the problem.

ah that makes sense! I hear new mexico has some crazy sandstorms and whatnot.
From what I hear the Owyhee, while we have our windstorms is not as crazy as the southwest deserts. Man that is a crazy story but like man glad that antennae didn't do anything like break and damage something

No kidding! Those things are heavy!
And they encounter all kinds of problems!
PS: It wasn't a squirrel, it was a Scrub Jay.

Would Oli be the kind of person that would convince the mother of those eggs to give her one or two of them for her homelands scientists to study and possibly raise in captivity or would she either morally object to such a thought, or stubbornly insist the mother Drek would eventually care for it?
Have to ask, as its unclear from dialog and the prior/subsequent pages:
Did she lay several eggs, or one and the den has a group basket to carry them in?
I'm getting the sense that it's the latter, but the basket of eggs wasn't visible in prior pages (though I recall an empty one of about the same shape...but it was more than a dozen pages back).

Its definitely one. Drekir just lay one large egg at a time, though can recuperate and lay another egg pretty shortly faster. The way they are reproductively is less large clutches and more a steady churn of eggs.
I just assume the basket was in a travois somewhere along the way
