dA has as its only advantage that older art is easier to find via search engines. I found your social media icons through Google in there while searching for such stuff.

But otherwise dA was destroyed by the extreme bloat the site had, the loads and loads of ads (I still remember some years ago when they put the ads that covered a literal half of the screen, and when they had ads with malware for some days) and the new design that seems like people really didn't like. Back then they had the monopoly on art sites, people used to go to dA because, as you said, it was the biggest one. Today there's a lot of other much better websites to post your stuff, and most of them do let you to build an audience.

It's probably the curse of sites getting too popular.

More than sites gettng too popular I think it was more about letting ads and monetization get in the way of art enjoyment.
I know my experience wasn't everyone's, but in 2012 loading a single deviantart page could take me 30-45 seconds. Sure, my internet was bad and i had a potato computer. But other sites (like this one) loaded much more quickly.

Yo, in 2012, it took me 2-5 minutes to load a page on DA. It was the slowest site in existence. It was rediculous.

Even worse when the page that loaded slowly was the notification page, that -supposedly- doesnt have art displayed around, just your notifications.

Problem is they need to pay their bills. I'm glad I haven't had your problems with loading times, but compared to FA, the site's still horrible to browse. ;_; But where else do good non-furry artists go?

I used to think of dA as my main hub for looking for art, but once they started pushing Eclipse against the will of I think every single person I talked to who uses the site, its future was already in question. deviantArt really did kill itself with Eclipse. They gutted almost all of the useful features and features that made the site customizable. Everything is totally unintuitive and it just looks like the whole site is designed as if it's only meant to be used by mobile users now. It sucks to watch a place I used to love so much go down the drain because of developers who think they know better than the users what the users would like.

Da used to be my second most active artsites behind FA here. Now I wonder to even keep up on it sometimes. Right now it's use is as Cuddles above said is that Google can bring the art up so I can be found.

Das layout is def very not great. I actively avoid it because of my arm injured that makes clicking and scrolling hurt. There's so much more clicking and scrolling. DA hurts my arm so much

I think most users that are left follow specific people and most of those people are cross posting their art to other locations like here. Since DA still looks fairly active to me, but submission wise and other notifications. Yeah it's way less most of the time.

But please, don't drink the slime!

I saw this happen with one of the various artists I follow on DA. I guess DA is becoming less popular now.

DA makes my PC lag

I haven't been on DA in years. Last I checked, I had a combination of like 3000 notifs.
