I'm trying to get a bit more familiar with the FAL. This isn't the last time it'll be seen, that's for darn sure.
I think the M-16 and its variants as well as the AK-47 are so prevalent in fiction because of their Hollywood presence. Their presence on screen also leads to a huge number and variety of very silly superstitions about the weapons. Fortunately, because the FAL lacks such silver screen luster it can be looked at without prejudices like "M-16s jam a lot" and "AK-47s are inaccurate".
