Wow! These sound interesting to say the least, certainly a little bit of something for everyone in them. :)

I found this recipe quite by accident in "The Homesteader" - its one of those El Cheapo "free" magazines that highlight the town goings on (in this case Natick) and I also put a few other touches in this which will be asterisked (meaning optional) :3
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
3 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tsp. milk
2 cups quick cooking oats
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/3 cup Reese's pieces
1/3 cup coconut
1/3 generous cup chopped walnuts
1/3 cup M&M's
1/3 cup Craisins *
1/3 cup Golden raisins * (regular raisins are good as well)
1/3 cup macadamia nuts *
To make :
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar. (it helps to nuke them both for maybe 30 to 45 seconds - no more- then you can just stir)
Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Add vanilla and milk and beat again. Meanwhile, in a separate medium sized bowl (I had one of those Ziploc bowls on hand, theyre rather useful) put in the oats, flour, baking soda, and salt, and blend.
Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mix, and then stir in the remaining ingredients.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees, get a large cooking sheet (theres no need to grease it because of the high fat...er...butter content :P)- and just throw a sheet of parchment paper right on the pan, then drop in the cookies by the spoonful- just make sure the cookies are at least three inches apart to keep them from sticking together.
Bake for a good 8 to 10 minutes (with all the extras I added, I would put on another three to five minutes) then cool on the pan and serve with a nice glass of milk :3
Enjoy :3
P.S. Yes, I shot those cookies in my kitchen sink, aren't I clever :P

Actually, no.
Any chef (or person who's cooked for a very long time) will tell you that you "eat with your eyes first".
Presentation is key. If it doesn't LOOK good, then people are much more hesitant to try it.
Now, I haven't eaten these cookies and so I won't pass judgment on their taste, but the look is just not appetizing at all, that's me being 100% honest.

looks can be deceiving though. yeah presentation is a big thing..... if you are trying to sell. but taking in the account that the photo is in poor lighting (as most buildings are) and taken with a camera phone is a big part of it too
im all about presentation on my cheesecakes, but they look good anyway, even if its just randomly topped.
but actually taste, to me at least, always comes first. though with drinks, i know if i dont like the smell, i wont like the taste (usually pertaining to alcohol most of the time. not a drinker, more of a sip to see if i like/can stand it... usually dont)

Even if you're not trying to sell, just trying to get someone to eat something if it looks unappetizing is hard to do. They'll be pretty weary of it. The camera phone certainly didn't help but you can easily make this recipe again without literally throwing everything in there and just leaving some as a topping on icing or whatever. It'd look a lot better than it does now.
To most people, taste comes second. It has to look good before they put the food in their mouth. Smell and visuals are kind of hand in hand, but with drinks, it's usually smell first.

im not hesitant to try anything that may look bad, beacuse you never know,
i dont understand why people are so visual, i mean yes that can be a key part but i was raised to judge things for all their values not just one, and if you let one unapealing factor inhibit your willingness to try something different or new, you may miss out on something you may have enjoyed otherwise.

Because if the food looks bad, then people will just be hesitant to try it. It's simple human nature to avoid it if it looks rotten, like trash, etc. because you don't know if it will make you sick or not.
Not that I'm saying this food looks like trash, but it certainly doesn't look appetizing.
