You don't have to add so many lines. A few fur lines gives away the fact that it is fur.

I dunno about this advice. Yeah, if you wanna do lazy comic-style art (like, say, zaush), then that works fine. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I do love Zaush's work.

However, if you ever want to do kickass realistic work like say Nimrais or even Blotch, you're gonna have to get used to drawing this much and more.

In the meantime, I think this particular style works really well. The lines really give the fur definition. I could see making them lighter, but definitely not fewer.

Well, there's nothing inherently WRONG with their styles... They're just more comic or anime-like. I have more RESPECT for the artists with more realistic styles, but I enjoy both kinds all the same.

I dunno, I mean, if he doesn't want to do so much fur lines, he can just decrease the amount of them.

Also, if you look carefully at blotches art, you'll notice that they use very few fur lines in the inking process. They just make fur look more... fur line using the paint.

Well, okay, yes.... but we're not doing paint here. >.<

Besides, in the end, you're still conveying the same lines whether it be through ink or paint. Knowing where to put the marks is the hardest part, even if the result is sometimes gaudy. The rest is refining how you do it.
