If they could be more bold and brave about the movie's message, Pixar would have done it greater than life. However they played safer for the conservative reaction which might have been furtherly enraged more than what are already now either passionately denying the subtext-implications of the overall true underlying non-officially acknowledge message of the film, or actually viciously attacking it as some kind of forced-agenda thing for destroying the society standards, as they usually got very enraged on when about these themes existence and their deffence of representation. If by now there is polemic, Pixar & Disney executives just couldn't have managed to be more open-supporitve of the themes into a more bluntly explicit way than it's now.
