Terminus of Tears - Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil 20th Anniv.
Happy 20-Year Anniversary to my favorite game of all time, Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil, released in the US on July 25th 2001💙 It's been quite a few years since I've drawn my favorite character, King of Sorrow, and it's always great to draw Klonoa too since his design is so fun✨ I tried to convey a sense of the duality between them, and the background is my favorite location in the game, the Terminus of Tears, with a faint overlay of the game's Japanese title~
I first saw this game at Blockbuster in my hometown and something about the cover art just drew me in; but we were already renting a game that day so I passed on Klonoa 2, but I don’t think I ever saw it at Blockbuster again after that so I was never able to try it😭
It wasn’t until years later in 2008 after I joined DeviantArt, that I rediscovered Klonoa thru some friends I made on the site, and I knew I had to experience the series✨ I did research and found how rare Klonoa games were even back then, so I searched every GameStop I could to try to find Lunatea’s Veil anywhere; whenever I went to a GameStop, I had to ask the employee to look the game up on the computer, and I had to spell it out EVERY TIME LOL.
I must’ve gone to over 10 different GameStops to try to find this game, until one day on June 8th 2008, I was at a GameStop at a local mall, continuing my routine search; after scanning the PS2 shelf, I finally asked the cashier to look it up, and she kinda took a pause then quietly went into the storage room, and minutes later she came out with a generic case with those lame graphics on it, and THAT WAS IT, for only $10😆 It felt like an accomplishment finding it after so long, and the ride home was agonizing as I wanted to start playing ASAP.
I remember I played it on a tiny CRT TV with a built-in VCR, but I didn’t even care because it was literally everything I wanted it to be; the characters, atmosphere, story, soundtrack, gameplay.. everything was perfectly executed imo💖 If you enjoy platformers like Mario or Sonic even in the slightest, do yourself a favor and play this game, PLEASE.
