This is an early birthday present for my bro
scani - his birthday's not until next week, but I finished this early, and let's face it, who doesn't like early presents? :P Here he is, standing on his balcony in the morning sunshine, stretching his wings and getting ready for a morning flight. (Don't worry, he's in a cartoon-nude universe; no-one will mind. :P)
I tried a couple of things out with this pic; notably a new style of drawing wings. My old style had a tendency to make them too rigid and sharp-looking; a side-effect of learning to draw them from looking at Space Marines, I expect. Here I tried treating each feather like a separate, cohesive tuft of hair, with its own flow and direction and its own reaction to movements, and I'm much happier with it; it looks almost anime-esque. Also, I wanted a very light, airy, peaceful feel, so there are lots of light, slightly-desaturated colours. Mountaintops and high-up locations always feel peaceful to me; there's something about being physically above the cares of the world that translates metaphorically.
