This is a song that I originally conceived as a test of ambient/new age music in 2011, first titled "The Call of the Wild." With the summer being a little more than half over, I decided to revisit this composition 10 years later.
I made this entirely with recently-acquired samples from the E-MU Emulator II, a 1980s sampler that was a lower cost alternative to machines like the Fairlight and the New England Digital Synclavier. Guiro and Tambourine samples from the Roland CR-78 drum box were used to simulate the chirps of crickets. Other elements of rhythm include the Roland R8 "Spark" sound, and various Oberheim DMX and DX drum samples.
