On a summer's afternoon Friendly reminisces about when he was Timothy's age. However there is an unhappy memory buried deep within that comes to the surface. As his little raccoon buddy joins him for an afternoon at the lake, Friendly buries his feelings and tries to enjoy the company of his friend. When a little rat named Toby tries to befriend Timothy, Friendly is reminded of his unhappy memory and pulls Timothy away, his experience making him prejudiced. Toby plays by himself, but soon gets into trouble. Friendly overcomes his preconceptions and rescues Toby, and a friendship develops between them all.
