It's not 'mad science'.. it's pain. The power flowing thru hir is more than shi has tried to channel before and it's doing more than a little damage... by the end of the scene shi's in rather poor shape, thankfully there's a ready sickbay standing by even if it running on half power along with the rest of the ship.
If that's the worst of it, zie's got nothing to complain about. I saw a character (incidentally, an uplifted red panda) in a tabletop RP use his electricity-bending powers to channel some insanely high-output stuff around in a time of crisis... and he kinda did a lot of internal burn damage to himself as a result. Poofy fur is a slap on the wrist. *grin*
I do always wonder what twisted mental configuration one has to possess to brute-force a complex system like a starship into submission with the laying on of hands. How does that even work? Ah well. The lightning effects make it all worth the price of admission even if all it does is zorch the systems further.

I'm actually kind of surprised that the purple hues from the monitors don't seem to be colouring the chakat's neutral fur. (Not strongly at least) It looks like there's some lighting from the electrical arcs, but it seems fairly subdued, considering. I don't know if you've ever seen someone who is arc welding, but it is painfully bright even from a quarter mile away. Given the way you normally remember even to render reflected colour from light sources, I'm curious why in a piece that is full of lights, the cast light is so subdued.
I really like the facial expression, the way you've rendered to electricity (this is surprisingly hard to get right), and the rising hairs on the chakat's head and tail.

Eh, what do you expect? Have you looked at his main page? "It's really sad when you find a great artist and all they draw is herms or gay stuff." Yeah, he's a real winner.
No, what's really sad is when heterosexuals think the world is supposed to revolve around them simply because they're heterosexuals. Oh well, between his user name that has to of the most overused words for people who're trying way too hard to come off as "bad ass" and his avatar that's chock-full of cliche anime and video game references, I'm sure he's stuck too far up his own ass to let anything we could tell him sink in. =3

Under attack by pirates, the ship is too badly damaged to fire the main gun. With that as a direct threat to hir new mate (Windsong) Myth momentarily channels the ship’s full power past the damaged systems and to their main weapon. It strikes the pirate’s main (and charged for another shot) gun, which not only blows the front end off the pirate, but damages or destroys the boarding shuttles and other pirate ships.
(or so the writer has told me! )
Very nice Kacey, now if we can just get him some time to write it on out!

Oh, before Pro gets shot up, Folly will take her lumps too. (if you have an account on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/chakatheaven/, under files and me, the 18 plus chapter will tell you Neal loses his arse to pirates – and is heard to say “If you think I’m in bad shape you should see the other guys!” )
reminds me of my role play character rida, she has the same power and a limited ability to generate her own electricity. though in the role play she would need a special suit ala circuit breaker http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Circuit_Breaker This character also reminds me of her too.
Am I really the only one who gets goosebumps from looking at this pic? The thought of being so physically close to such a scene is very... electrifying. *shudders* And it's a testament to the talent behind this pic. :> Great work Kacey! Btw, it's not hard for me to imagine this is really a girl, don't know why people complain about that.
Wow, shi sure looks charged from the looks of hir fur... brings to mind holding on to a VandeGraff generator.
Well, this is another excellent chakat drawing you have made here. You draw this species so well; the body proportions are always so balanced and good looking! The look of tense concentration on Mythil's face is apparent. Interesting concept here, too- sci-fi, hi-tech, spaceship, electronics, energy manipulation... background definitely has had some thought put into it. The lightning bolt discharges woven throughout the scene make you feel the energy and excitement. Good job!

Thank you =D I haven't read that book - but how I do it is actually using my fingertip to dab away excess paint from some paint I put down before it dries, and do that a couple of times with a couple of different colors. I use my fingers for a lot of blending, actually.
Oooh, really? Cause if it wasn't his technique I was going to say drybrushing - fingerblending works wonders, but it's usually quite noticeable and I never would have guessed you used it on the smoke - there's such great texture there!
It is a good book, if you feel like checking it out it can be had from Amazon for pretty cheap :3 Especially great if you are wanting to make a transition from watercolor to acrylic or vice versa, or even if you just want some fun transparent techniques. Though, myself, I am still working on getting my brushes not to cause bubbling when I water-down the paint x___x YAY SMOOTH PAINTING - er, crap, now there are little ridged dots all over it ;_;

Whew! That was close! Lucky us, you were here to help out with the docking procedure, otherwise we would be minus an entire bay, if not some crew to the depressurization! You did a fine job there! *backslap* *ZAP!* Why thanks, captain, it was nothing I couldn't han-- captain? Oh... oops.
