Scratching at the Door - a Thursday Prompt
I am ever grateful for the participation of our prompters, and the artists of FA.
This week’s prompt is a visual prompt suggested by
anhedral and is given to us by artist
alai_aorax
I would especially like to thank Alai for lending his art for this prompt.
This week, I was happy to once again slide into a serious work... this one about werewolves.
Enjoy...

this thing called work. is it what we do to get things, or is it what we do for someone else?
somehow i am never sure if its both or neither or something else entirely.
as a cat i look for what i can find in the city to play with, to see the different colored lights on and off that i can change their sequence with the switches and knobs.
i don't like to stay in the city, its just a place i go to get things?
i don't know to call that work, and no, i don't take something if someone else is using it.
home is the forest where the food is.
the crumbling ruins are where the shiny bits to make things with are found.

"But beware the frailty of men. Their wills are weak, minds young."
"The foul beasts will dangle nectar and lure the meek into the depths."
"Remain wary of the frailty of men..." ~ Vicar Amelia (werewolf), bloodborne.
The difference between a Helix and a Vixxy story is the Vixxy story will have a divergent point where things tend to get better, lighter, or happier and that which seems is not what it seems. A Helix story very much the extreme Spoopiness is extreme spoopiness. To quote another Mr. H. Helix is lazy.
I really enjoyed this story. Got my mind wanring in Helix fashion in Helix spoopiness. Love your divergence as always. Mind filled with terrible jokes and werewolf quotes from over the years. If you have not read it I think you would enjoy Mike Mignola's the wolves of Autumn.

spoopiness? hmmmmm.... spoopiness?... hummmmmmm....
*breaks out laughing... I love that word! and darned if it isn't really a word!
What to Know
Spoopy is amusing internet slang describing cute, comical, or silly versions of typically spooky subject matter such as ghosts and skeletons. Cute dog in a sheet-ghost costume? That’s spoopy!
Thanks for that Helix...

Well, I must say... this highlights a fundamental difference between you and I. You can look at such an image and pull a spoopy (thanks Helix!) piece like this out of it.
Me, I linger on horror and fear. Visually, I have no frame of reference so I immediately go to a 'bad dangerous death-on-a-cracker' mindset.
Which illustrates why I love your work. You make the terrifying things go spoopy. And that's just awesome.
*hugs*

Oh WOW. That was a wonderful read I fully enjoyed reading... I have been slowly working on a story about werewolves and they are not being how they are portrayed. If we look back at church history and it's actions would they not do the same to werewolves? Face it we have proof of their crimes against the human race...
Having handled wolves and enjoyed interacting with the pack would werewolves not interact much the same with people around them?

Oh yes... Wolfs have pack rules, the same as people. I think that's why we adopted each other the way we have. I also came across the Wulver, which is a peaceful werewolf in Scotland and Shetland: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wulver
I've had many Wolven friends...

Y'know, normally I'm pretty good at recognising a Vixyy story from the style alone, but I wouldn't have picked this one out as one of yours if I'd been handed it 'blind'. It's a marked shift towards a more serious and sombre mood, and I absolutely love it!
Werewolves really are such a rich seam for storytelling, and one that is very far from being mined out. This evocative, heartfelt piece is proof of it.

This one definitely gave the impression that you ventured outside your comfort zone. Especially with the in-story genre shift what at first appeared to be post-apocalyptic horror and ended up as something quite heartwarming.
You handled both sides extremely well, Vixyy.
