I think Kursed could work in theory if it wasn't tied to that bloody awful game Command. Imagine if Krystal never joined the team and instead wandered aimlessly for months and years longer. Eventually, all that solitude and loneliness would get to her and she would start to walk darker paths. Her becoming Kursed as a result of Fox dumping her and the whole Lylat System ostracizing her (yet hails the rest of Star Wolf as a hero) is a lazy copout.
Regardless, this piece did her absolute justice. I love the integration of violets and purples into her design as well as the longer hair. The look she's giving him is devoid of any warmth or love it would have had were she still Krystal, and I can only imagine the look on poor Fox's face seeing her like this.

The Command's plot is very classic if we think about it. Krystal's change and 'betrayal' is not uncommon in other games and movies.
She felt unloved and unwanted. I think Command was interesting, its not one of my favs but i don't hate it. I had a chance to see Krystal as a person we wouldn't expect.

That's true, but other IP's handle it way better and it doesn't excuse Command's sloppy execution. For starters, Fox and Krystal start off broken up after they teased us relentlessly in Assault and Adventures, so we're robbed of the payoff of when they get together just for that weak hook to get you invested in hopes they get back together. Then the rest of the game is Krystal treating Fox like crap and Fox treating Krystal like crap. I totally understand her feelings, but my issue is the whole concept is flawed. Not only is Krystal a telepath, but she is stronger than even Nintendo gives her credit and would never allow Fox to shove her aside, not when Star Fox has become her new home and Fox is her mate. She would have picked up on Fox's growing doubts and fears for her and would never have let him shoulder such burdens alone. She's always trying to help and prove herself to Fox in Assault after all. Command butchered her and everyone else as a character, even going so far as to have Slippy abandon his friends at the climax of the war to go maroon himself with Amanda on Aquas. He never hears from his friends again and for all he knows, they could be dead, captured, or tortured. Command was "drama for drama's sake" as every possible character choice was made to wipe clean what came before so we could have the new board where Fox is alone, Krystal is in Star Wolf, Falco and Slippy need to be brought back into the fold, and Star Wolf is back to being bad guys despite getting a governmental pardon for their efforts in the Aparoid War.
It is a very common opinion that the entire Krystal's portrayal in Command appeared because writers wanted to please her "hatedom" from Japan in the first place. Kursed ending... looks like that too, to be honest. There were many bad endings in Command, but Krystal's is perhaps the darkest - unlike other Star Fox members she got nothing good at all in her "bad ending".
Speaking of Fox's face - it is very interesting in fact. We don't see his face and can only imagine what is his reaction like. Does he still care? Or maybe his facial expression isn't that different from Kursed's? Many variants!

I've heard rumors of her "hatedom" in Japan, but I've never seen evidence of it. Naturally, I don't go looking for it because even if I found it, I wouldn't be able to read Japanese. But we also see a lot of Japanese artists doing absolutely phenomenal work of her, art that gives her more presence and grace than even Nintendo does. Though some of that might be true, or maybe Imamura hated her, because Star Fox Command is some of the darkest, meanspirited shit I've EVER seen in a Nintendo game. Most game overs and bad endings has the heroes dead or defeated, but Command's default ending was a fate worse than death for Fox and Krystal. Not only is Fox completely robbed of his legacy and accomplishments in favor of his career-long rivals usurping it all, but the love of his life abandons him, betrays him, and runs off to be emo somewhere. Krystal is robbed of her second home, compromises all of her morals in joining Star Wolf, gets ostracized, and becomes a killer for hire. It honestly would have been better if they died on the Aparoid homeworld after defeating the queen. At least then their lives would have had meaning, dignity, and grace.
I'm aware of the hatedom here in the west, just not of the one in Japan. I've only ever seen great fan art of Star Fox come out of Japan, unless it was hentai and that's usually the most fetish stuff there is unless you're lucky and find an artist that doesn't treat her like a wet wipe for dino dick. There are some that hate her because she overshadows the rest of the series, but frankly, the only ones that did Star Fox in was Nintendo themselves. Nintendo only made 64 and Zero in house, and every other installment has been second and third party developers. They did not care to expand Star Fox's horizons and their lack of care for it has resulted in the dismal failure that was Zero as well as the series being lost to obscurity and Smash cameos. Blaming Krystal is laughable because she's a fictional character that has no input on what she does, and it was the fault of real people not giving a shit about Star Fox to make regular sequels for it. Command and Zero had a 10 year gap between them, with only another 64 port to tide us over in the meantime. Granted, a character can be so unpopular that it turns people away, think Jar Jar Binks, but Krystal was rather back in the day, and her flirty sexiness was better received compared today where everyone is just itching to "fix" her design by layering clothes on her and shrinking her femininity to the point she might as well be a skinny man.
As for the art, I always love to see long-haired Krystal.
As for the subject matter (and after reading some of the other comments), I feel like people tend forget that Nintendo in general has always been "gameplay and cutesy aesthetics above all else", which why it seems like every major first party title hits the reset button on it's plot. Command's storyline was just an attempt to create a "reset button" so Nintendo could go back to regurgitating the 64 formula with no complaints from fans who expected the plot to continue on from after Adventures and Assault.
