Here's my hot take on an old favourite of many--it looks like just a couple of hot dogs, but nope, these have been spiced up real good! Wanna know how I go about making these? Well, let's start with going over what you'll need!
Ingredients:
- 1 package of hot dogs
- 2 tsp of Cajun spice
- 1 bottle of your favourite BBQ sauce
- 1 package of hot dog buns
- 1 tsp of butter
- Ketchup
- Dijon mustard
Recipe:
1. Melt the butter in a small frying pan over medium heat.
2. Remove two hot dogs from the package, cut small diagonal slits into each one and place them in the hot pan to cook.
3. After about 2 minutes, sprinkle 1 tsp of Cajun spice evenly over the hot dogs.
4. Turn the hot dogs over and repeat step 3. This should equal about 1/2 tsp of spice on each side per hot dog.
5. After another minute or two, gently tilt the pan side to side and roll the hot dogs in any remaining spice and butter.
6. Turn the heat down to low and let the hot dogs simmer for another 2 minutes or so.
7. While the hot dogs are simmering, pour some BBQ sauce into a condiment dish and use a sauce brush to coat the insides of two hot dog buns with sauce.
8. Place the hot dogs into the buns and decorate them with as much or as little ketchup and Dijon mustard as you want.
And there you have it, a spicy twist on a familiar simple classic! If you want to make more than I did, of course, just use a larger pan and multiply the amount of spice, butter and sauce used accordingly. Fair warning though, these will be quite spicy, so have some milk ready in case the bun and ketchup don't do enough to curb the spice's bite--this meal got me sweating almost as much as standing over the hot stove did!

Nothing wrong! But those stanch aficionados of the classic "Chicago dog" have very strong opinions on what you should and shouldn't put on a hot dog. *chuckles* It's sort of a running gag now.
One of the "NEVER NEVER!!" (*gasp* Heresy!!) condiments those folks shy from is Ketchup! *smiles* They believe it has no place on a hot dog.
On the other paw, wuff is a fan of an "All American Dog" with ketchup, mustard, and sweet relish. And there are many others who like them that way too.
So you make the dogs the way you like them! You do you! And know where those "no ketchup" shouts are coming from, and take a tip from the Madagascar Penguins and just "Smile and wave!" *GRIN*
