Maybe you could make the whiskers using some fishing line - maybe coated with transcluent nail polish to make it stiff?

Err... I sort of figured that might work, but I might be too creative for my own good.

about 80 lb test weight on the fishing wire should do fine. :3

I've pondered about getting hold of some network fiber optic, stripping it down to the single strands and putting that in, then lighting them inside the snout with a few LEDs or something.. glowy whiskers ^,,^

Nothing beats free :p I've had a bunch of the cable laying around from various sources.

Asides, was just tossing out the idea.. I haven't gotten into the suiting thing yet X3
