Hey everyone! I'm tired! But back with a shorter, calmer story this time!So I sat down to see what I could come up with in half an hour! This took two hours! I think I really stayed within my time limit with this one! Jokes aside, I was in a productive mood, so I wrote a tiny, calming story! Then I whipped up a thumbnail in about ten minutes, and this is the result! I am really happy with how it came out, and I hope to be able to do this stuff more often! I think it's really fun! So here's to more of that, and hopefully I can make story writing a daily thing! We'll see!Wolfy finds himself awake in the middle of the night. Finding the need to do ANYTHING, he goes on a nice stroll through the calming woods. The air brushes against his fur softly as he walks toward his destination. His tailmaw sits atop his head, along for the ride as always, as Wolfy goes on a peaceful stroll through the woods.Enjoy my beautiful people! Imma sleep! I love you all! Keep being incredible people, and I'll see you next time! Have a wonderful day/night/evening/noon! Bye now!Harsh Seasons Bring Vibrant Forests...Middle of the night. And as usual, bored as always.
I find myself staring up at the sky, my tailmaw rocking his form back and forth atop my head, obviously as bored as me. I usually find myself in this situation, unable to sleep in any form of the word as my restless body just decides that now is not the time to sleep. My eyes wander across the clearing that I sat in, the chill of the wind caressing through the fur on my chest and face, and the soft grass that was draped along the rest of my body. I let out a soft sigh, flopping back into the grass as the wind draped across the clearing.
...No. I refuse to let another night go by with me bored.
I jump up to my foot paws, the deft paw pads caressing along the grass. My tailmaw, Gulchin, drapes himself around my shoulder, looking forward as he knows exactly what I was thinking. With a small nod, I walk out of the clearing and into the dark forest around the clearing. My eyes trail along the various trees that surround the clearing, even in the dark night as vibrant as they are in the day time. With the brilliant brown bark shining with the glint of the moon that peaks through the clouds of the tree leaves above. What stood out to me more though was the glistening green leaves that stood overhead as a symbol of the prosperity of the forest. I did my best to make sure everything was taken care of in my forest, and I’d say I’m doing a pretty good job.
There were of course rough patches. There are scarier parts of the forest where many dangerous plants grow that have proven to be quite cumbersome to manage when it comes to finding wandering furs who managed to find their way into the deeper recesses of the woods. I put up signs and deterrents to try and scare away anyone who may want to enter into the darker areas, but there will always be people who will go back there.
That wasn’t my destination though. I continued to walk along the forest path that I have walked many times before, just happy to bask in the intermittent moonlight peaking through the leaves of the forest, and to feel the soft wind blowing across my body. It was such a peaceful night… the best that has come across the forest for a while. The Summer brings across bad heat waves for the forest, but it was well worth it for the vibrant colors that sprung up around the trees and flowers from the waning Spring season, many colors ranging from the prettiest pinks to the deepest blues popping up around the forest to finally bring life back to the once dead and depressing looking trees that wither with the cold of the Winter months. To see such a thriving landscape wither away all within a few months, just to come back as vibrant and beautiful as this was always my favorite thing about Furth.
It is a good metaphor for life, honestly. The trees may wither and die away, but in the next few months, the leaves will come back twice as strong, the leaves vibrant and green from the once withered husks. Life has its ups and down, but everything works out eventually. Even the harshest Winters have always ended with plants coming back beautiful and vibrant, ready to wow the world with the entrancing colors that they have sprouted with every year.
Such is the cycle of life. Although harsh, there is always a bright side.
I was so lost in my haze, I barely noticed when we reached the destination that I had set out for in the first place. Sitting right in front of me was the favorite part of my forest, a lake sprawling out hundreds of feet to either side. The water is as stunning as it usually was, the lake perfectly reflecting the light of the moon as the calm water glistens with every small ripple that goes across its surface. I could see to the bottom of the lake through the perfectly clear water. There were many feral fish swimming under the surface, every brilliant scale glistening under the surface of the water as the moon perfectly caught every single tiny detail of the many species of fish that found themselves in the lake.
I look around for my usual spot, noting the line of flowers that had sprouted behind me with every step I took on my way to the lake. It was a weird ability, but one that always brought a smile to my face. The vibrant flowers are good at bringing some life to the slightly bland dirt path that brought me to my destination, the bright pastels letting off a natural glow for the surrounding area. What catches my eyes more though are the lightning bugs that had seemingly come out of nowhere, the forest having evolved the bugs to have a variety of colors despite the usual yellow that adorned their glowing bottoms. This sets a soft rainbow glow across the surface of the lake, a soft light show appearing across the lake, as the night is now filled with the soft sounds of fish jumping out of the water to catch the sudden late night meal. My eyes continue to trail on though… It should be around here… Somewhere...
Ah! There it is!
Sitting across from me is my usual resting spot, a pair of trees sitting right beside the water’s edge, a vine hammock bridged between them that are the perfect height for me to sit and dip my paws in the water. I softly pad my way over to the hammock, not seeing any reason to rush toward the spot that I was just going to spend the rest of my night anyway. My paws plod across the dirt around the lake, getting to my resting spot as I soon flop myself down into the vine hammock perfectly situated between the trees. I let out a soft sigh of relief, happy to be able to sway back and forth in the perfectly comfortable hammock that so perfectly handled my body.
I lie there for a moment, staring up through the trees to see the waning gibbous moon perfectly situated above my body, the soft glow radiating down at me to put my mind perfectly at ease. In such a turbulent time in my life… I will always have this. The soft wind blowing through my fur, and the grass lining my body, and the beautiful scenery that I get to see everyday. From the vibrant trees, to the resplendent lake sitting beside me, to even the animals that I get to see every day. It was all so…
Incredible. That’s the only way to say it.
It isn’t until I can feel a slight nudging that I am pulled out of my trance. I look over to see Gulchin pushing against my arm, his cute, jagged mouth smiling up at me. I pick up my arm lightly, before he snuggles up against my belly, the soft surface of his grass grazing against my white fur. It isn’t long until he drifts off to sleep, his body slowly rising and falling with the rhythmic breathing across his frame. I turn my head to look toward the lake, seeing a small bass jump out of the clear water to catch a light pink lightning bug. The tiny fish falls back into the body of water, its body alight with the glow of the lightning bug inside of its belly.
...What a funny sight this forest brings.
I stare across the lake for a little longer, before I can finally feel my eyelids start to get heavy, my taxing day finally catching up with me. Taking care of the forest always takes a lot out of me… but it’s what comes with the job. I move my paws to caress along Gulchin’s length, tiny flowers appearing wherever my paws touch, before disappearing a moment later. It is always satisfying to sprout flowers along the grass on my body. Just to be able to spring life out of nowhere is an ability I will never get tired of. I continue to massage Gulchin's body, growling lightly to myself as I watch his body rise and fall with tiny motions.
Gulchin has always been by my side… quite literally in this case. Right when I came to protect this forest, Gulchin was right there with me, his lazy but voracious attitude always standing out to me as a unique one. We grew up together, again, also literally. He was my buddy. My always hungry, never excited to really do anything buddy… but still my buddy. Eventually he had found his favorite spot to lie is right on the top of my head, the place he could be the laziest, but also the highest position so he can scout for any nearby snacks that may present themselves. It was weird getting used to at first, but I never minded it. In fact, I enjoyed having him always next to me. It was nice to have someone who was always there to comfort me.
...even if he had no choice.
A yawn is what reminds me of how tired I am, my eyelids slowly closing shut as I feel my body finally drifting to sleep. With one last soft caress along Gulchin’s body, I fall asleep in the soft hammock, small flowers sprouting under my paw as I rest it on Gulchin’s body.
