This is a picture I took of Wiwaste at the bird festival earlier this year. When the sun does decide to come out in Washington State, she likes to sun bathe like this. I of course make sure she is properly hydrated during times like this, usually by gently squirting some water into her beak with a spray bottle, and if she starts to pant(birds, like dogs, don't sweat so pant to releive body heat) I take her into a shaded area if possable. And with her wings spread like that, she makes some pretty good shade herself, but at 3 1/2 lbs, it gets tiring holding her after a while.
In this picture another handler is holding her, giving my arm a rest and allowing me to snap some pictures of her.

She looks really pretty, and you've got to love a gal who can pose for the cam. ;) Yeah I know. You explained why she'd doing it, but it's still a nice profile shot with the wings all spread out. As for the panting, I didn't know birds did that, but I was wondering, since I've seen a lot of crows walking around with their beaks open this year. When about seven of them pace back and forth like that on your lawn.. all open beaked like some kinda corvid zombie.. it's a little creepy.
