There WAS a 'Meerkat' cartoon that came out way before LK which had them a bit 'closer' in design. It aired on Nickelodeon back in 1988-1989 and there is NOTHING online about it!!! D*MN!!! If I knew then what I knew now I should've recorded it, even had a nicely drawn silver back jackal villain too!

Oh wow I never saw that cartoon! Now I has a sad :( I wish I had seen it. But how closely did they draw them to being correct?

Even though they had a female who had white fur(!) never mind wearing clothes but you can TELL they were meerkats. The characters weren't goofy looking and *almost* spot on- think "Redwall" cartoon style- but with meerkats. It was serious also. They even had a bad guy meerkat too!

They speak of the cartoon as a failed 'direct to home video' cartoon called "Meerkats".
To correct myself the cartoon was made in 1986/7- I hadn't seen it til 1988 on Nickelodeon. They played it a couple of times. It wasn't a bad cartoon either!

Even the old 80's cartoon archival websites don't have it listed! Just words, no images!

They stood up, looked at me and went away.
