Just an idea I had written down but never uploaded for some reason.
The first thing you notice when walking into the cafe was the smell. The fresh coffee beans fill your senses as you gaze around the quaint surroundings. This was definitely a small business but everything was accounted for. Though, your eyes settle on one thing: an alligator dressed in standard barista fashion. A collared shirt and an apron that complements his minty scales along with a very cute tie. He is cleaning a cup as you approach.
You try to speak up but he notices you and turns, setting the glass down as he smiles, his toothy grin accentuated by a small, pointy beard that matches his spines.
"Welcome!" His voice is bright and cheery, "Welcome to the Gator's Retreat! I'm Erin, the owner, and proprietor of this place. I'll also be your barista this afternoon!"
He bounces on the balls of his scaly feet as he looks you over, his enormous tail swaying back and forth. "Now! What can I get for you today?"
You give him your order, a favorite of yours, as he pulls out a pad and scribbles down notes. "Would you like whipped cream on that? It's no charge!" You nod, his smile widening. As soon as you finish your order, he looks it over.
"Now what name should I put on this order?" He asks. You tell him and he writes it down. His movements are precise and quick as he turns around and gets to work. He mixes some things and blends it all together, all the while a grin is plastered onto his scaly face. He seems to enjoy every moment of his task. Soon, he squirts on the whipped cream and sprinkles on a topping and places the finished product on the table.
"Your drink is ready!" He says. You grab the cup gratefully and find a place to sit.
"You mind if I sit with you?" He asks, "Business is slow today and I like to interact with customers."
You nod and he sits at the chair across from you. It's at this point you realize how bulky he is. His belly seems to be barely contained within his shirt and his legs look stubby in comparison, making his slacks look cute in a way.
You take your first sip and marvel at all the wonderful flavors put into it. Every bit of it seems to just pop and the whipped cream just adds to it.
"You like? Everything is hand blended- as you saw when I made it and the beans are local from me directly!" He smiles and puts his fists to his sides with pride.
You can't help but laugh at this display, which causes him to blush.
"I-I really like my craft. I can't help but indulge in it,"
You continue to sip your coffee, taking glances at him every so often. He seems to be absolutely thrilled that you're drinking his coffee. You ask him if he gets many customers.
"Not yet. I've been in business for a handful of months but only a few show up here and there."
You're surprised, with coffee this good, it's hard to imagine that customers are few and far between. Though, it makes sense. It's not like this place was easy to find. In the end, you were just passing by at the time and thought you'd check the place out.
You tell him that you'll tell your friends about this place. He begins to blush again.
"O-oh, you don't have to do that! I can get customers easily enough, honest!"
You can't help but smile at his reaction. His demeanor is very cute, especially the way he rests his chubby, clawed hands. You tell him that you should tell everyone about his coffee. His whole face starts turning red.
"Y-you really mean that?"
You laugh and nod. He replies with a sheepish smile, "I-I'd like to have more customers- especially if they're like you!"
You take another sip of your coffee, noticing it's gone.
"Oh! I c-can get you another. Free of charge!" He declares, "It's the least I can do for such a good customer!"
He gets up quickly, his long tail knocks his seat down.
"Oops! This is embarrassing!" he says picking the chair up carefully. He returns behind the counter and gets in the zone. He seems very happy to do all this, like a gentle flame burning brightly. You can't help but watch him as it's like he's doing a small dance with his movements. Each deliberate action brings him one step closer to his goal. In the end, he hands you your new coffee as he does a small bow.
"I hope this one tastes just as good," He says as he sits back down.
You give it a sip, getting a feel for its flavor. You clap as his little performance was a huge success. He blushes one again and scratches the back of his head.
"Please, you're making me blush!"
You set your cup down. It's surprisingly close to his hands. They're much larger than yours and the scales look nice to touch. Without thinking, you place your hand on top of his, causing his whole face to turn red again.
"Wh-what are you doing?"
You gently caress his paw and interlock your fingers with his.
"Y-you like me? I've never had anyone do this with me before." He turns his head away, slightly embarrassed but not unwanting of your advances. You keep your hand there as you continue drinking your coffee. He looks back as you gaze into his steel-blue eyes. They look very pretty and they have a sparkle to them, especially with the blush acting as a bright stage for them.
"This is nice," He says after a moment of silence. You nod, drinking the wonderful coffee he made.
"Maybe we can do this again sometime. When I'm off the clock?"
You agree. You want to know more about this friendly, shy gator. Trying to sip from your cup, you are saddened to see that it has been emptied. With a heavy heart, you tell Erin that you have to go.
"W-wait!" He calls as you stand up. He rushes to get a napkin and pulls out a pen from his apron and hurriedly scribbles down something. He blushes again and hands it to you. Its hurried nature makes it look a bit less clean than the words he wrote on your cups but you make out a phone number.
"I-if you want to hang out o-or something, give me a call! Okay?" He sheepishly waves goodbye and you wave back. A cute gator deserves someone to give him attention. Hopefully, that can be you?
