A very nice start, but I feel like you're giving more information to the reader than you should be. You should always give your readers the information they need, but when you're giving them more than they want it slows the flow of the story. Also withholding some information allows the reader to ask questions and sustain their curiosity throughout the story, thus allowing them to continue to happily read.
