Under the Cover of Night - Father Cedric and Cornelius
A scene from the story I have been working on for a long time. Now reworked into a DnD setting. Here I have a scene where Cedric has found a moment of calm, hidden in the tall grass as he has been running with his godson for so long.
He is tired, winded, sore, and worried for the safety of the prince. Still, he presses on to get as far from the moon kingdom as possible. For a moment, when all was quiet save for the sounds of crickets and the gentle breeze of the night, he stops to take a breath. He lowers his hood and veil to take in the night air. He looks forward into the night, fireflies and lightningbugs dance around him in the air lit by starlight. He closes his eyes for a moment and speaks softly "Selune.... I hope I am doing what is right..... Please..... help me to know that I am doing the right thing."
In the stillness of the night, the stars seemed to twinkle brightly as the breeze picks up and gently washes cool air over him and the boy sleeping in his arms. He feels a rush of divinity flow into him, his energy restored, his body no longer aching, his eyes now more focused, his head no longer foggy. At that moment he knew Selune was watching, and that he was doing exactly as she wished. He took a deep breath again and looked at the tranquility around him, taking it all in for just a bit longer. Then he continued on his journey, feeling restored once again.
