I wanted to try a faster approach for Rendering the Fox. And I think I succeeded.
The high quality Render took like 20 minutes. This one takes 10 seconds and is entirely based on Ambient Occlusion.
And I do enjoy the cartoon look. One could even think it is a drawing.

Thanks, and yeah, copying the Normals would actually be a good idea. I should look into that.
Right now I'm just baking out the AO of the base mesh, and then in stage 2 I turn the fur on and render skin and fur with flat shading and the AO applied. So right now the fur is taking the color and shading info from the base mesh. Yesterday I notice the fur still becomes quite visibly separate if that fake highlight becomes too bright.. so I'm still looking into blending the base of the fur strand into the mesh.
